Yeah, you're probably not going to see that kind of speed from a gx200. What you need, is an engine with a transmission.

By 250 pounds, you're talking about price?

Yup, transmission is the only way you're gonna make it go 50+ at that budget.

Actually Kibble, my GX200 currently the way it is (perf. cam, then complete :)) can turn 7,500... so I'm pretty sure it can do 50. It did 35 at 3,600 governed.

New billet flywheel and rod (around $200 to $300), stiffer valve springs, port cleanup (DIY), remove gov (DIY), exhaust header, all that should be around $300-$400USD plus around 6 hours labor and you will need a good understanding of engines. After you have that base platform built you can put in a high performance cam (USD 50-200) for even better performance.

People fit 100-300cc dirtbike engines in those frames all the time, its called a shifter cart.

Might I suggest a single cylinder snowmobile engine? They're in the 240cc- 300cc range, spin 6-8k rpm no problem, and, if you do your homework (like I didn't) you can find some that have a fairly standard output shaft to work with. Probably within your price range.

And oscaryu1....
Hitting 50 will be NO PROBLEM for you- My HF 6.5 (completly stock) got the lowrider up to 48mph @ 4700 rpm... all I did was reach back and hold the governor wide open. (not the most scientific method!) and that's without any mods! I'm thinking of modifying the exhaust, rejetting, and getting the better valvesprings, con-rod.....
It's just hard to justify yanking apart a motor that still has that "New Motor Smell".....

You can save a bit and get a aluminum flywheel at www.nr-racing.com , rod, get it with the bearing inserts. You won't have to replace the whole rod when it wears down.

If you're going below 6,500, 18lbs springs will do fine. Any higher, you'll need 26lbs springs, and better retainerse.

Removing the governor is quite easy. Guides at: www.affordablegokarts.com

Exhaust header? 1 stage is good enough. You can both find them at www.nr-racing.com and www.affordablegokarts.com

Just a tip, if the sprocket is mounted behind the engine, don't remove the gas tank. This weaks the block... the gas tank sort of acts like a girdle. Also, get a Faster Motors girdle. Made for Briggs but fits the Clone great.
