What does everyone do with their used oil??

We do it on the farm to keep the love grass down

But if u get caught it is worst than murder

And if u do it too much it messes up all plants in the nere area

Sometimes I like to sneak out in the wee hours and pour it between the rows in my vegetable garden to keep the weeds down.

Here's a stray thought...take it to your local "Occupy Whatever" protest and throw it on the protesters - kinda like when they throw blood on people wearing furs or leather...

Well, maybe not exactly like that, but I'll bet it's more satisfying than killing weeds with it.

What is the climate like where you are? Do you need heating in the winter? I had a friend who built a stove from a barrel, with a bowl inside made from a harrow disc. He set up a small tube to drip oil slowly into the bowl, and lit it up with newspaper. It kept his shop warm in the winter, but it made a lot of soot. He had to blow the flue out with compressed air every week or two.

I save all my used oil, I filter it and run it as fuel in my diesel farm equipment. In most parts of the US you can run a mix of used motor oil and deisel in road vehicles.

I know a guy that dug a hole, put a 60lt drum in it (With the lid and bottom cut off). Then just poured any oil into it. He said it was a great hedgehog catcher!

Funny about the oil killing the grass. I had a blown hose on our digger (Centre joint to the track motor), I kept walking as I didn't realise. Now there is a massive line of dead grass for about 20 meters.

cheap chainbar lube for your chainsaw....smokes a bit tho.

I take it to the rubish dump and they do something with it.

i use it as drill press oil, and put some in a spray bottle and oil chains with it.

i have a few gallon milk jugs full of used oil and after a year or 2 i take them to the dump along with some shot batteries

My town has a local recycling center where you can dispose of oil and other materials (cardboard, plastic, glass, things that the truck won't pick up)

I knew a guy that heated his shop with a woodstove. He set up a gravity-feed drip system to slowly feed it into the fire...

Fortunately it doesnt get cold enough here for me to need any stove. I like the idea of taking it tn the dump

we use it on the fires we have over the weekends...sure the epa would love us. Also im pretty sure there a hole in the ozone above us

We've got family that owns a multiple bay garage, they actually get their oil disposed of in a 200 gal container. Its quick and easy to drop it off to him.

I can't say I am in need of knife hardening, but I will keep that in mind

It can be used for hardening any steel object. Just heat the object until it glows red & drop it in the oil.
