Hi

How fast do you reckon a kart weighing around 15 kilos, with 30cm wheels, 16 teeth on the motor and 45 teeth on the axle, powered by a whipper snipper motor would go.

Thanks :auto:

I don't mean to be a party-pooper, but I don't think it will go at all, thats a pretty high gear ratio, Fairly tall tyres and a pretty weak motor, not a good combination. Throw in a bigger motor and you got something. Most whipper snipper motors are 38cc or less and you really need something over 150cc. I have a 49cc pocket bike and you have to push it to get it goin.

CC has nothing to do with HP my 100cc dirtbike engine that i put on my kart is around 10hp, has a ton of torque and will go up any hills, my 5hp tecumseh is 200cc but is half as powerful.

However you are right, with a whipper snipper motor you wont go anywhere, the clutch will slip or the engine will stall.

Ok, if we are wrong then you should be looking at a cart that will go 130kph, go for it and let us know how it turned out.

a 5hp engine at redlined at 3600 rpm has as much torque as a 10hp engine redlined at 8000 rpm?

pretty much yes. torque is produced from displacement/weight of the piston. so a bigger piston at slower rpm will be the same torque as a lighter one at higher rpm.

if you've ever looked at the specs of industrial engines youll see that even though it has just 5hp it has about 7.3ft/lb of torque. and your engine has around 6.5ft/lb.

with that in mind i would still take the dirtbike engine any day. the built in tranny is what makes it better and higher rpm for a higher speed
