Hi all from CT.

I introduced myself a few days back after I made the deal to buy my kids a go kart. We got it today.

It's a 2 seater with a non running B&S Fun Power motor which I believe to be 5hp.

Can anybody shed some light on what the maker and model of this car is? I'll start trying to get it running over the next couple of weeks, followed by checking the clutch, brakes etc before we run it down the road. It also needs a set of tires and we have to cut out and replace the rusty floor.

Any input would truly be appreciated, and hopefully you can view the attachments. Thank you in advance!

Mike

I am from CT and have that same go kart too.. also there is another one on craigslist.. same thing.. the problem with those carts are that they are for 2 real small people and if your a normal guy you cant even get in with the wheel where it is. I am currently in the process of relocating the steering and rebuild from the ground up.

there are numbers on the side so who knows where they came from.. maybe the old Milford Rec.. or "the Game" in north haven..

your best bet is to go to harbor freight and put a 6.5 predator for 100 bucks in there.. get a 10 tooth clutch because your sprocket is probably a 60 tooth like mine.. you are probably also running the 41 sized chain and not the 35..

good luck

Interesting! I'm taking it as a personal challenge to get this motor running and I'll plan from there. My 6 year old fits well into 1/2 the seat, and I managed to force my 280 lb 6'2" body in it briefly. I have to admit I failed to realize it had an adjustable seat...that's a great feature for us!

I notice on the sides it has painted - over numbers supporting use on a business of some sort. The current motor does have a 10 tooth clutch on it. I need to cut off the rotted floor pan and replace, a great excuse to practice my welding.

Thank you for the info so far. If anybody has more it would really be appreciated.

Test the B&S engine for spark. If it's ok, check the gas tank. If there's rust in it, drain it and soak it in white vinegar overnight. While the tank soaks, clean the carb. Fixing those 3 potential problems should get the engine to fire - unless there are internal engine difficulties.

My bad my phone autocorrected the post.

I'm just glad to know what we are dealing with and appreciate you identifying it.

Just some info I found on kart recalls, the pathwinder was made by klipper. I bought one off eBay for my kids and I'm having a hard time finding wider wheels that fit the 3.5" bolt spacing. As far as the fun power Briggs and Stratton goes, take the air cleaner lid off and make sure none of the base bolts are gone. Fortunately I checked everything out and missed the fact that there were 3 mismatched screws in there, the original bolts rattled loose and jammed the carb wide open. I cranked it on jackstands..
