I'm new to go karting so forgive me if I'm a pain. I've just been given a Kazuma Maxx Drift go kart by my friend. The engine that was on there is seized and been taken off. My friend had a gx390 that's he had from a generator I think and i had that off him aswell he said it will fit on there. What will it take to get this to do around the 50 mph mark and be as quick as possible getting there? If it's possible at all? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi :welcome2:

The Kazuma AFAIK uses a #420 chain with a 48T axle sprocket or something.

originally on a gx200 clone engine is a 3/4" 10T cent. clutch.

Sooo with just a clutch (10T but for a 1" shaft) you should be able to mount the gx390,
that is if it's not a different PTO shaft size.. you'll have to check that first.

As soon as that's added you'll have the same ~30mph it had originally (running 13" wheels),
but with a much bigger amount of torque.

if you remove the governor and add a hig flow airfilter, a high flow exhaust and adjust your carb accordingly, it might be able to hit ~40-45mph

If you want more than that, you will need to add a more serious amount of money.

However, trying to find a 1" clutch with a 10t sprocket is possible but, not easy; a "standard" 1" #40/41 clutch has a 14t sprocket

hilliard extreme duty.. up to 13HP.. I think the 10T sprocket will be a problem perhaps,
but you could still get a 14T and increase the axle sprocket to 67 Teeth ;)

Thanks for all the replies guys! I've been reading as much as I can find on the internet trying to better a better understanding of things. Most of it is saying I'm better off with a comet 40 torque converter than a c.c so I think that's the route I'll go down. Also I was reading somewhere that with a governor removal that I'll have to change the vale springs for 18lb versions? I was looking at a k+n air filter, super snake exhaust and a rlv high flow muffler. Would these be sufficient? Or can anyone recommend any others? Sorry if I'm asking stupid questions.

yes a TC is better, but a series 40 is expensive... like in the 350 USD range expensive.
(driver ~165, driven ~150, belt ~35)

yes to the K&N airfilter, get a straight pipe with no muffler :D
No to the valve springs, not without billet conrod and flywheel. (again ~200+USD)

:wai:Better check the pto end of the crank. Most genny engines, the pto end are tapered.

The engine is a gx390 clone it's looks new. It has a 1" q type straight keyway shaft (that's what it says on the website he got it from) Is that the right one? Thanks again for all the advice.
