I have been given the opportunity to race a miata around Road atlanta. I daily a manual, so I know how to shift, but I've only ever raced DCTs. Are there/what are the things I need to know about racing a manual? Is there a different shifting method other than clutch in, shift to next gear, wait for revs to drop, clutch out (and clutch in, kick throttle and select lower gear, clutch out)?

Rev match and no clutch?
That sound like something your just gonna have to jump in and try.
Not really kart related though. A miata is just the next step up though.

The thing about racing is you want to go faster than everyone else. To that end I suggest whatever it takes.

Keep the engine in its best power band by watching the tach and keeping the tranny in the appropriate gear. After a few laps you'll be able to do it by ear.
In other words don't short shift and lug it down, and don't over wind either. Every engine has it's sweet spot. If you can't at least get the hang of it with in about 10 minutes, quit before you ruin the equipment.

I was given revving instructions by my chief engineer, upshift at 6200 and downshift at 4500. Its an endurance race so Im mainly there to keep the car rolling for 4 hrs while their main driver catches some zzzs. I raced a porsche gt car not too long ago, and learned my lines then, but they've also been helpful teaching me the ins and outs of Rd ATL
