Engine, clutch, chain, wheels, sprocket; there's the essentials, pretty much everything else can be made, depending on you skill/ability level & access to certain tools...

I see, just checking....

Im going to add a few that are necessary, pillow block bearings(flat or flange mount, depending on your design). Thats for a live axle though, otherwise you need to find bearing hubs for sprocket and brakes. You will need more if you have a jackshaft.

Your wheels will be the basis of the design, it will basically dictate how the whole thing will come together.

You dont list what tools have available, so you might need to get some or alot.

What is your machine to weld with?

I think you should look at a number of builds here and see what they( Of course myself aswell....Yes a shameless plug I know) have done, and use that for a start of your build.

I have a 90 amp Chicago electric welder, nothing special but it should get the job done hopefully

OK cool.

What do you have for a design, or thoughts on a particular design?

Oh and what materials do you have right now for use, metal and the mechanical bits ect?

Ok- So Mcklutzy......Exactly how does one go about building a live axle mini-bike?:lolgoku::oops:
bye using pillow block bearings or flange bearings making the hole axle spin with the hub, rim, tire, unlike a rim with bearings in the hub and not spining with the axle and not having the axle spin with the rim, hub, tire, also known as a dead axle. live axle is when the hole axle is spining with the hub, rim, tire.

Yes- But why? It would depend on what he has. ... ( nothing ) and what he gets.....and what he needs. The only reason in the world I can think of to use a live axle is necessity- as in a live axle wheel- or the necessity to mount a sprocket or brake drum/ disc outside of the frame......

But now I'm curious. .....anyone got a live axle mini and why?

I'm not too sure, but I guess I've seen a minibike with pillow blocks,
not because of the brake but because of the sprocket IIRC...

Anyways, think about this:
if you ever want to make it a mini-trike, just get another wheel and a longer axle and you're basically done :D

So a live axle minibike might not be the worst idea ever :D

Slow your roll poboy, no "L" in the name.... (Mistake I know....all good)

As for you ladys(when present)/gents who havent really seen a live axle mini bike, I reckon most of which havent seen my build in the last little while.
I wont really bog The OP's thread here, but I will add one to emphasize what I did and for inspiration(aswell as for others) to the OP on his build.

Poboy- Live axle with car spare "doughnut" tire (using pillow blocks). Inboard sprocket(right side drive I might add) and inboard brake disc.
Main use for pillow blocks, I didnt want to machine a whole hub with bearing cups to fit a car tire, sprocket and brake, was a little too much time/effort/money I didnt have at the time.

Sid- Live axle minibike was the greatest Idea I ever had.

As Crocodile Dundee would say: "Mini-bike???? Ats not a mini-bike....."

So basically- what you are saying is you did a live axle because of NECESSITY and to fit parts you HAD ?

Now where have I heard that before?????

Actually I kinda made it more cause I liked how the pillow block were mounted on a custom bicycle I saw once. Kinda went from there, and made this. Oh it was using a car tire aswell.
