Where did you find this thing?
Local. Driving home and seen it out by the road with a for sale sign.

Guy said it was sitting in someone's barn for 20 years, in the state you see.
All he did was grease it up, and get the briggs running.

what did you pay for it?
I gave him $300. I figured if the frame was junk the rims, axle and motor was worth it.

And prior my ol ford quit on the busy state route, took a chance and coasted into his drive.
Helped me troubleshoot the motor, and let me use his phone to call for a tug home.

So I was not gonna haggle him, gave em the cash said lets load it up.

That thing would be stupid if you put two CR 80 engines and rack n pinion it would also need front n rear disc brakes and a good 5 point harness a modern version. I have one of those starbird and it still has the scrub brakes and dead axel. I think I am going to build a Briggs flathead that is on my pressure washer. It will be one heak of a starbird raptor when it’s done.

Dang, that’s a pretty nice find... there’s some guy near my neighborhood who has one similar that hes either working on or is gonna be selling, I might have a pic of it...

That would be crazy, I think my single 98' yz125 motor would be sufficient,
but Im going for a more period build.

Id love to see the starbird!

Thanks , id keep an eye on that for sure!

Great story! Saw the saw beside it (you might want to take the chain and bar off first) :p

What are plans 2 2strokes? Or just 1 McCullough
The 10-10 is my brothers, only 54cc. We have two, but I got something better.

It's getting a single west bend 820 2 cycle, 134cc. Good for 10hp at 8,000 rpm.
Freshly sleeved , new piston, rod, bearings, ect. Trying to track down a recoil and tins.

This thing is slammed , so it should be quite a riot to drive.

Remember the painful lesson I've recently been learning...............
If the drivetrain won't let your motor spin up to the rpm where the actual good power is, you'll be disappointed.
8K rpm, 10hp. ? Lotsa fun if you can get it up to speed, get some use of that power.

Thanks, I have plenty of experience in this field. With the current 82T rear sprocket,
and 11t front, that will give me a top speed of 41mph @ 8k , and have plenty of motor to get
me there, 12 to 82t will = 45mph top speed, still is within reason.

No worries, she'll rip.

Now I know it's not an optical illusion. The rear tires looking bigger than the front is because they really are.
Congrats on that 82-tooth rear sprocket, I've never seen one that big, thought it was past the limit of how big they make them for karts.
The bigger tires make plenty of ground clearance for that big sprocket. Except when going through some sugar sand like we have in N.E. Florida. Grinds chains up like a garbage disposal.
