I got this old race kart for cheap and put the briggs on it. I need to strip it and paint it to look good but havent decided yet on a theme.

I'm not sure i'd call that a race kart, but its nice looking, it looks like it was twin engine at one point? anyways i'd go red with black trim, it would kind of match your engine.

Is that a jag i see in the background?

I do believe that's a vintage race kart. I would go with KK's suggestion about making it match the engine colors.

Correct on the 2 engine set up. That there is a nice classic kart from the 70"s I believe. They came with double 3hp motors. Be nice if you could get her back to the golden age. Not many of them around anymore. I saw one like it in nice shape shape go for $1500.00 on Craigslist.

wow 1500 bucks is awesome. I paid 40 for the kart with everything but the motor which was free and made my own pedals and linkage. the mechanical disk brake works awesome for such a simple design. its just got a cam that presses on the pad. Yeah im starting to clean up the wheels as we speak. They are two piece and are a real "pita" to get apark with the spikes on the inside of the rim to hold the tire. ill post a pic of the wheels when I get em done. I cleaned up the edge as best as possible but they are pretty badly pitted so I painted the inside black and left the lip aluminum.

Heres the seat I made this afternoon. Its marine vinyl with 1/2" foam on a plywood back. you can kinda see the wheel I cleaned up there. its not the best job but better than it was.

probably just black. its easiest and covers up defects the best. Im trying to come up with a front guard like you see on current race karts. the kind that mounts in front of the steering wheel vertically. any ideas there would be cool.

yeah those mculluch powerheads are seriously ALOT of money. Ive researched them on ebay and they are like 500.00 dollars. Man i would like dual briggs though. That would be a serious powerhouse. My gearing is seriously high right now, like 10/45. Acceleration isnt great and I get slight clutch slip up until about 15mph but after that it takes off like a rocket. We took it up in the hills on a twisty road and my wife couldnt keep up with me in her mini van on the corners. The camber is extremely negative. im not sure if all old race karts were like this but when you turn the wheel the leading tire flatens out and corrects the camber for cornering. I dont much care for how it makes the steering feel but it makes for awesome cornering.

I found out what kind of kart it is over on the vintage kart forum. I was told its a 61-62 Percival(sp?) Hellcat. The dude who told me what it was said he owns one also and that he knew of only 4 others in existance. That would be cool if it turned out be be worth some money.
