I'm a nuts and bolts guy. And since 46 is a long way from 16, the supposed improvement in my quality of life due to the internet has been mostly a cruel scam.

Case in point: if I trip over a song that I heard and liked ~ 25+ year's ago on line,you would think that copying down the http address would allow me to post it up here in the off topics page.

Apparently that solution is considered to easy; someone who worships the Microsoft alter has decided that I am not worthy, and something simple is no longer allowed. Manage attachments doesn't seem to work either....

It depends on the context and what exactly you're trying to do. What you're talking about is doable if the music is embedded on a page or hosted as a file and you just want to share the link, but you still have to tell the computer a URL is a URL and not just random text.

music, videos, images and such...?

DRM, copyright, licensing and other fancy colored shirts!

And although Microsoft is the grandfather of all evil sometimes...
it's not their fault this time..

But don't follow this white rabbit...

PPS DIY: find the artists homepage, and check for a yt-channel or soundcloud or the like.

It's "Fanfare for the common man" by Emersion, Lake and Palmer, and the video is from when they recorded it, using Montreal's Olympic stadium as the sound booth. It's over 9 minutes long, and they recorded it in the winter time.

Here's the http address, as it show's on my screen.

It comes up as an invalid address, which seems highly suspicious when it's right there at the top of the page.

And now, when I preview my post and try the link it work's perfectly.

I do it long hand; write it down, then manually type it in. The only thing that I can think of that was different is that I was trying to post in Doug's "How was your day-two" thread....

I've never been able to sort out how to use either of the two methods you just mentioned, and I don't do that often enough to be serious about it. Plus, I know that about a time I do figure it out, they'll change the format again........

lose the "s" from the http(s) to be on the safe side (we've had that issue before)
the rest should work...

manually typing yt-video IDs is a huuuuge pain though, it's upper and lower case characters mixed with numbers, and sometimes special characters...
getting everything right in one try isn't always trivial (0O, Il etc...)

Alex, in a perfect world, I would never have had to get this frustrated. You live in the world that can drive me ,and I can tell you that all the claims of the next generation of whatever always seems to fail to live up to the claims..

Faster, battery,easier???? Haven't seen it yet. The odds are dropping fast.....

Any YT vid I post I simply copy & paste the url from the address bar at the top of the page; this method should work on any device...

Pat forgive me, but that's not the internets fault;

just like in the physical world, there are dozens of stupid things
you (as in 'all of us') don't want or don't need, or simply don't understand.
Just like in your everyday shopping mall, where there are stores you never visit,
and services you'll ask yourself "who the falcon needs THAT??!".
Ever had artificial finger nails glued on?... See?!

Say you want nothing but a nice cup of coffee..
and that faceless green apron is bothering you with stupid questions for half an hour,
to finally asks if you want to humiliate it with artificially flavoured molasses..

But luckily.. that too is nothing but an offer.. skip it as you please.

If you like it for some odd reason, then you must try to understand the concepts behind it to a degree that allows you to order that single cup of mind propellant without wasting enough time to raise and roast your own.
Or in your case use the internetservice you're after.

You always need to learn how something works to use it properly.
Take any random user in here tell him to mill a 2" square cup 3" deep with .125 wall thickness from a solid piece of aluminium.
What do you expect?
Now load him the toolpath into the control... Most will still fail, right?
But would you say it's difficult,
or are you with me, that with a little explanation it becomes rather trivial?

And, the more you know about how the machine works, the easier it is to use
and make more use of it (load a different toolpath, pick the right tool for the job, adjust cooling and cutting speeds based on material number of flutes etc..)

And the internet is not different..
Most of it is an interactive machine, you click and see what happens.
the more you know about the technology,
the easier it is to use it without frustration
