Ok so i got my tires/rims (13/5/6) and now im just wondering about the #(35 or 41) chain clutch to get. There are alot of #35 sprockets (with alot of teeth selection and such) but not alot of #41. A guy are work keeps telling me to go with #41 chain so i dont break it. But other say use a #35 cause it wont matter. So another thing to figure out . But im intrested in what you guys/gals are using on your setup and how good/bad they work. Thanks :D

I've ran a quality brand of #35 (RLV Xtreme gold on gold) in a methanol powered 357cc./20hp dirt oval race kart and havent had any chain problems at all. With that said, if your running an even higher powered engine or meyby have a heavy off road type kart, the stronger #41 size might be a better choice for you.

its just going to be a yard cart no big bumbs or nothing just grass/gravel and pavement

ps anderkart i saw that topic with the videos of the dirt oval track you raced at and that caught my interest alot. I would love to be able to do that around here but there are no tracks(well to my knowledge) around me.

I have had no issues with my 35 chain

Thanks for the links :), I was thinking along the line of a 62 or 64 tooth. Bmi karts has a nice soild #41/60t from a yerf dog that looks promising ;)

Yeah just make sure your engine/sprockets are all perfectly lined up and you'll be fine with either size chain. I like #35 cause quality sprockets are easy to find in any size and usualy cost much less.

You might ask around, meyby there's a track somewhere you dont know about. I didnt know my track existed until I posted a craigslist ad seeking other people that wanted to ride/race karts. I had 2 diferent dudes respond and turn me on to the track.

#420, I'll never use anything less in the 40 line of chain, it snaps too easily.
I kept breaking chains even when I wasn't using a master link.

I really would like to upgrade to 520, but I need to get my hands on a motorcycle engine.

basically, the bigger the chain the longer it will last. there are of course those smaller chains that have the same strength as a size or two larger, but you definitely see it in the price of the chain. ander, you had 360ccs and only 20hp? must've been a 'small engine'. dirt bikes from 50-125cc or so run 420/428; street bikes 250-750cc run 520/530/630; higher hps run higher strength chain. for 100 links of good bike chain you can spend anywhere from 50-250 dollars. a common trick is to run 520 on a bigger bike to save weight and power. the heavier chains will help wear out your clutch quicker, but can aid in torque (off idle). i run 40/41 on my kart, but i would see about getting an o-ring chain (35 or 40/41), they are far better on bikes, and i would run one on my kart given the choice.
