What axle is this?

I assume there’s a diff or lsd inside there...

Front axle is a live axle, rear has a diff... one of those common buggy ones... "Comet" I want to say off hand ... not sure..

What the **** is the point of that? Doesn't the live axle completely defeat having the diff in the first place? Also it appears to me as they both have diffs. It would make more sense that way.

And yes, he'll need two (one for each axle of course) for it to make any sense at all..

I think that second pic (dang is there an even smaller pic maybe?.. me getting too old to spot details in such 56k modem images)
shows a full length jackshaft between the axles connecting them ...
IDK.. hard to tell, but that doesn't line up with the wheels hub center to me.

It is the same front and back. Just hard to see with the 5th wheel in the way.

I’m still trying to decide on something like this.
Or switching over to a lawn tractor rear end.
That will get me my reverse I need, multiple forward gears.
And easy to put my motor up front.
I found a vertical 18hp v twin for $50.
The truck weight over 1000lbs. So I’m worried about belts slipping, but it would be easier to do a clutch this way. And 18hp vs 6hp would be great.

But could I run 2 lawn tractor rear ends ? Double pulley on one getting input and put to the rear?

So many options, and too much snow. Lol.

What are your plans exactly? If you are wanting to use Peerless 100 differentials, they are hard to find now and are only rated for 600lbs each. Lawn tractor transaxles would be better, but you'd be limited to at the very most, 6 mph. Unfortunately there isn't much as far as geared transaxles go nowadays from lawn tractors, they are going to hydrostatic (hydraulic) drive, and unless you buy one or two from a garden tractor, they won't be able to do much work, and they do not like heat.

My 1996 Polaris Magnum has this type of rearend , it’s a 6 wheeler, basically a 4 wheeler with extra axle and is either 4 wheel drive or 6 wheel drive, no 2 wheel drive feature
