What are kart/mower brakes made from?

Was asbestos ever/still used in these little brakes?

Asbestos was banned in the mid 80s, though some pads on car in the early 90s had slight amounts of asbestos. Unless you have a really old kart with pads, then I wouldn't worry if that's what you are concerned about.

Thats what I thought, but I cut one up without thinking one day and it had fibers in it. I had to wonder.

Probaly carbon fiber in a plasic form.

Looked more like fiberglass, but thatwas foote pad, the peerless pads look like car clutch material.
