What android phone?

Hey guys!
I want to get a new phone to replace my phone and ipod touch (i will sell both on eBay).
I don't want an iPhone, because I am bored of iOS.
I was looking at the HTC inspire. Does anyone own this phone, or any other reasonably modern android phone, and would they reccomend it?
I want to spend £200 ($300) tops

Through a carrier, you should be able to get a Galaxy Nexus for $300. It's running the absolute newest software (Android Ice Cream Sandwich/4.0). I believe it's a global (SIM Card) phone.

Does your phone operate on CDMA (Like Verizon and Sprint) or GSM (Like AT&T and T-Moblie)?

you will highly regret not getting the iphone... trust me ive owned both and said exactly what you said but the iphone is 1000000000000000000000 times better then any droid you will buy. just my opinion though

I would get a blackberry, but that's just me and my weird ways. I just like the straight forwardness and physical keyboards.

I bought the toshiba thrive 10.5 in tablet it was great but then i bought a apple iphone and i just gave my thrive away to my friend and gonna get the ipad 3 when it comes out

Ok thanks for the replies.
I am on a GSM carrier in the UK, but I was going to get a phone from the US because of the price difference.
I like iPhones, but they are expensive! Also, I wanted something with a 4" plus screen.
I may look into the galaxy nexus a bit more.
I like the HTC rezound, but it is out of my price range.
I dont want a blackberry, because I want a touch screen because of games etc.
Shakey: I don't have an iPad, I have an iPod touch. It has a slightly broken charging dock. I would want about £50 ($75) for it, but I will probably just put it on eBay auction and see what I get. It is the 3rd gem 8th

The Galaxy Nexus will probably be expensive, but what it allows you to do is incredible. It far surpasses the iPhone 4s in all categories (except camera). It has a 720p screen, 1.2GHz processor (overclock-able to 1.5), Android 4.0, and a 4.65" screen. I don't know why, but Samsung IMO dropped the ball with only a 5MP camera.

That said, the 4s was simply a catch up phone for Apple. At the time, Samsung, Motorola, and HTC all had dual core phones with larger screens and better cameras out for 6 months. I never quite caught on to the hype of the iPhone because of how tightly locked Apple keeps it. I love the market for open development, which allows for things like overclocking, custom software, themes, tweak, and removal of unwanted pre-installed apps etc.

Being that the GNex has all open-source software, an unlocked bootloader (allows for custom kernels, overclocking, and flashing new radios, etc.), a huge developer community, and powerful internals, I believe it will be a long time before this phone is considered outdated, even in quad-core phones debut around Q2 of this year.

If you're a fan of iOS, you can get it on Android with an MIUI rom, it's just flashable software, plus all the customization of Android. Just to show what's possible with this phone, I think that this lock screen is about the coolest thing ever on a phone.

of course theres the nexus ( nice phone) but if your in for american phones, the lg optimus is a nice phone (optimus S) it has some physical keys but is mostly touch screen, runs android 2.2 ( easy system of root) and is a pretty nice phone, you can get them for like 50 $ over here

That's also a good suggestion. If he does want the latest and greatest though, Android 2.2 is well antiquated already and that phone will most likely never see an update to anything newer. Even the best phones of this summer aren't going to see Android 4, and these are dual core phones. Why I'm such a large fan of the GNex is because it's 100% open source, meaning that root is simple to achieve as well as unlocking the boot loader to flash custom kernels to improve battery life, CPU speed, and many other things.

That's why I was probably going to order a HTC desire hd from America. £150 mint condition.

I will look into the nexus, ice cream sandwich sounds good.

A Samsung Galaxy S II may be a good choice, and is much more affordable IIRC.

The sII and nexus s are both very nice phones, but around $500.
I found a HTC inspire for half that, which is more my price range.
Will the single core still cut it in 2 years time, or should I find a dual core phone?
I think it is upgradable to ice cream sandwich.
I still need money to spend on my kart!

Wow, if those are $500, then the Nexus will be even more. I didn't realize you weren't purchasing it though your carrier.

Nah. What I Plan to do:
Buy a £7.50 a month contract which has 250 minutes and 5000 texts and 500mb Internet, along with a £50 phone. Lasts for 2 years. Sell the £50 phone.
Contract=£5 a month.

I don't want to spend over £12.50 a month total. This gives me £7.50 a month for a phone. 7.50*24= £180.
Since phones are cheaper in America, I figured I would buy an unlocked American phone.
I can only really get cheaper phones like the galaxy ace and the HTC wildfire s for that price in the UK.
However in America, I have found a lot of samsung galaxy phones and htc phones with single core processors 1ghz+ and screens that are 4" +.
Bit of a complicated way of buying a phone, but it works out cheaper.
Samsung galaxy sII contracts are around £25 a month, twice of what I want to spend a month.

I have a Motorola Droid III and like it. Full keyboard, dual core, SD card slot for upgradable/removable storage.
Not sure how outdated it is by now though, got it a good 6-7 mos ago.

its a pain in the *** to connect to anything
like trying to get pics off it
u have to have a pile of programs on your computer to interact with it
it also glitchs every now and agian
lastly u can get my iphone my sisters nokia N97 my dads brick nokia and mums HTC and sit them together all on the same provider on the same plan
most of the phones get 4/5 bars but the HTC will get 2 or 3 bars
note this test was done 60km from the tower
and what im trying to say it the htc will loose service first in the odd places like certan rooms

my mum has one and see hasnt entried anything fancy on it these are just issues with the phone part of it

i like my i phone 4s
it probs isnt the flashest but it is very easy to use
and because it is so wide spread it is easy to get products for it and get service

also it also has as good service as the old $99 nokia indestructable bricks (they get full service every where)

I actually have the same phone. I'm not a big fan. My keyboard has crapped out a few times now and I believe I'm on my 3rd replacement. I got it back in August. If it dies once more, I'm going to try to get a different model.

The Sensation looks like a nice phone. I can't imagine why it'd be that difficult to connect? After looking into it, they recommend HTC Sync, but with the USB cable, you should be able to view both internal memory as well as SD card as mounted storage in "My Computer". Just a heads up though, it only has 1gb of internal storage, so you'll probably want an external SD card as well.

Just to add, I hate iTunes. So if I can use the micro sd as m only memory source, that will be fine. I will look into the motorila.
