Well I got the rear axle housing welded in this weekend along with replacing some other metal on the front of the frame. It had been broken and welded poorly long ago. Not anymore, straight, square and solid. Still have a little more welding and cleanup to do. Also have to make the motor mount plate. Hope to be able to get some paint on it next weekend.

Yes, its an old door. A heavy *** solid wood laminant door. Im a big guy and it took all I had to get it up on the saw horses. I leveled it up with some shims and it made a good level surface to get everything set up.

Got some more done this weekend

Finally decided to go with disk brake. Got the caliper mounted and added two final braces to the front. Things are pretty even with the sprocket on one side and brake disk on the other. The brake will actuated by a lever from one side of the kart to the other. Still have to weld on the motor plate and some type of 1/4 inch rod frame up front for a nose panel with "Green Flames" for my son. My rear brace on the right of the engine almost got in the way. I had to swing the engine pull cord housing around but all seems well. I hope the high torque 9:1 ratio will get this thing moving ok. Not expecting any high speed, but it sure is heavy.

Very f'n Awesome. I figured it was going to be a Off-road kind of kart when i saw the sturdy frame. Are you going to powdercoat it?

No, just planning some good rattle can at this point. Just don't have the cash for much more than that. A $250 go kart for my 5 year old son turned into a complete overhaul but at least I didn't waste the $250. New engine, New Clutch, New Tires, generally good frame to start with. I just added to it. I will have about $600 total in it when its done, but it has been a blast.

I used Some good ol rattle can on mine and after about 5 hours of riding and 2 washes NONE of it has chipped off. I use the Krylon Made-For-Metal paint on mine, i got it at Lowes for 7.99 a can. I know what you mean, When i bought my kart frame i was like "ok, $700 is my limit" now when i add up the receipts its more like $1213.56.... Btw, never add up the receipts....lol.
