its my birthday tomorrow, and i have decided i want a welder. does the 90 amp flux from harbor work good? i looked into the 110 amp MIG & flux, but then i researched how much a CO2 tank would cost. to much. so i think i want to stay with flux. does the 90 amp work well? im not going to be welding think metals, the thickest would be my snowmobile frame.

you can use flux core wire in a mig machine, so i would suggest something that is capable of using gas so you can switch over in the future if you feel the need. I would also suggest a better welder, but the HF one would work, you could probably do 3/16" steel with it max.

i am a welder ... what u gotta look for is the duty cycle they normaly have a % soo if it says it has a 60% at 100 amp duty cycle that means u can weld for 6 out of 10 min (not 12 out of 20) at a 100 amps. the higher the amp the thicker gaugeif if were u i wouldgo home depot and pick up a lincon electric they are good for little projects

also mig is alot better for thiner metal flux core is really ment to be use with plate
they are both the same welder just one uses gas (i like 75/25 mix) and the other uses a flux inside the wire i hope this little bit of info will help u

if i'm not wrong these nachines have a duty cycle of something like 10% lol. but for beginners its very usable... 1 minute of continous welding is quite long and you can get away with it to rig up a kart frame...

also... do you plan on welding in your garage or outside... because MIG can be a pita to operate in windy conditions as the wind will blow the shieling gas away and therefore causing porosity... self-shielded flux cored wire is immune to wind (like a stick electrode) but is also more expensive than regular S6 MIG wire

also i think this welder is 120v... if so you'll want to install a 20 amp 120v outled... (regular is 15 amp and might low)

don't got the money for that, ill just stick with what i got,it hasn't blown a fuse yet

i guess... if you dont know your way in an electrical panel then dont touch it! its not hard i installed a 220v plug for my welder but when you dont know it better to leave it to pros
