If you have a power source for SMAW, you can get a TIG torch and some gas, teach yourself or otherwise learn how to do scratch-start TIG. No need for fancy/expensive inverters - just a couple hundred bucks for gas and torch.

I built the Spidercarts Tarantula almost entirely with this method except where out-of-position welding and metal thickness where MIG made more sense.

I'm a novice welder. I attended a 20-hour ($300) TIG course at LWS and just practiced 'til I got welds that didn't fail bending/twisting tests in the vise.

Both! I kinda like threads like these. They get abandoned and then totally hijacked with off topic jargon. I thought OP meant Previous Owner.

I hope that the pictures above aren't showing a piece of tubing just stuck in there and welded. I hope you sleaved it before welding

:surrender: :ack2: We can always hope.....

Now, for anyone who can't seem to grasp the structural dynamics involved, a welded joint is only as strong as both the weldors skills, then multiplied X10 by his or hers understanding of joint design, layout, and execution.

Yeah, you can just stab a tube in wherever..... Problem is, if you haven't got a clue structurally, it doesn't count for anything.,. (Except maybe the cost of your funeral.....)
