If you have a power source for SMAW, you can get a TIG torch and some gas, teach yourself or otherwise learn how to do scratch-start TIG. No need for fancy/expensive inverters - just a couple hundred bucks for gas and torch.
I built the Spidercarts Tarantula almost entirely with this method except where out-of-position welding and metal thickness where MIG made more sense.
I'm a novice welder. I attended a 20-hour ($300) TIG course at LWS and just practiced 'til I got welds that didn't fail bending/twisting tests in the vise.
