A buddy and I are looking to start and run a Go-Kart track in Chicago far suburbs. We know 4 tracks exist closer to the city. Our possible areas have lots of high schools, a good demographic for this.

We are thinking indoor and electric power. We have some start-up money and maybe some state, county or municipal help, too.

We think this will create some jobs and provide badly needed tax revenue for areas.

What do you think our cost might be, ballpark? And would we be better off using an existing, empty building (lease) or build a pre-fab simple structure?

What about track plans? Sources? Safety first, then fun, and finally, speed.

We might also add video arcade games and lease out minor food concession to a 3rd party.

Any help is appreciated!

Have you beard of MB2 or K1 speed? They do the same type of karting that you are thinking of. Do a little research on them.

I think a leased warehouse will be your best bet.

:iagree: :iagree: :iagree:

Unless someone gave you the property, you're going to be leasing/ renting. Make absolutely sure your lease/ rental agreement has a full liability review from you legal adviser; one of the biggest killers of the type of business you're proposing is a lawsuit....:surrender:

... lets not forget about the insurance(s) that are gonna probably need to be purchased 'just' to open the door to the public?!... Round here (NC) insurance is cheaper for those kinda businesses, if it's a 'private' organization... in other words... membership needed... ofcourse memberships could be purchased upon the training vid that you'd have em watch before driving YOUR karts on YOUR property... just sayin something to look into "if" your gonna be jumpin into that business.

good info above. I would not personally start something like this as a means for a living unless you have a significant amount of financial backing.... Or an amazing business plan. Half-Breeder had a great point about insurance. I am sure if you lease a building for this purpose you will also need insurance for the building itself.
