I been lurking on here for some time, till I read about the thread of using a outboard engine on a kart. That got me signed up!
Some projects I have going on are getting the go-kart finished for my kids. 3hp briggs with T/C drive to a differential axle, just need brakes and regear it for off road as I get it to 45mph with me on it!!
Building up a mean off road mini-bike using a 12hp single or 18hp twin lawn tractor engine hooked to a DIY hydraulic transmission.
That DIY hydro-tranny will be designed from easy to get automotive parts and will be 3 speed automatic hopefully! If you can drill and weld, then you can build it. I am designing it for vertical engines to be used as of last count I have over 8 of the 8hp to 18hp Briggs lawn tractor engines with another 3 possable in near future! The 1st test to comfirm if this design would even work was a very messy sucess!!! Now to refine and adapt those automotive parts...
The one reason for this hydro-tranny, is I run in lots of water/mud and I do not want my Honda ATC200's being abused by others when we ride. Plus my Wife burnt up a clutch pack on one, so time to automatic shift for her!! Also a lawn tractor engine is forced air cooled and ATC's are not.
More to come...
