I always thought a used automotive air conditioning Accumulator/Receiver-dryer would make a cool DIY kart tank.
They've usually got 2 or 3 fittings already, only problem is you'd have to cut it in half to gut it and re-weld/Heliarc back together.
They come in Aluminum or steel and you'd probably find most auto repair shops/junk yards have some laying in their scrap pile
they'd either give you for free or maybe only charge a $1 or so for the Aluminum ones.
You could Polish the Aluminum ones up to look like chrome. They come in several different shapes and sizes:

Thanks for the idea AK. That would make a sweet tank. I have a 4" dia oxygen bottle I was considering using but I remembered I have an old Clinton engine with the perfect tank I can use. About 3" dia and 8" long. It's for a little side project I'm doing. Scored a Manco Streaker minibike frame in a lot of vintage kart stuff I bought. An aborted project. All repainted and ready to go. I also have a 4.5hp Suzuki 2 stroke from a Toro CCR2000 snowblower that was given to me. So I thought I'd throw together a small, lightweight minibike with just a little dough and parts I have laying around. Kind of a rat-rod minibike. $100 was too much for a tank, but my Clinton tank I think will work perfect.

dont worry about the critics they probably have never even built a kart and just rip on yours because they have nothing else better to do. BTW nothing can be worse then my first kart lol
