Putting an engine on a wood frame is a very good way to kill yourself. Spend the extra money and have a longer life.

As long as the frame is made of metal you can do anything for the body. Just make sure the parts of the frame that holds you, the engine, steering, your axle, and the parts connecting those are metal. I dont want to cause injury or death.

yes^, OK so after scrounging around the house i found some metal(not much just 4ft of conduit 1/2 in diameter and 1/2 in angle iron??? in 2 5 ft sections) and i measured the bed frame at the points i would weld it measured approximately 6ft long by 4ft wide. Now that's the measurements for a 2 seater which i think will work.i can probably scrounge up 120$ to build it some more.

I am going to need your guys help on this, right now i have a bench grinder a torch kit( http://www.bernzomatic.com/PRODUCTS...etail/mid/1147/xmid/6954/xmfid/3/Default.aspx) a drill press an air compressor ill soon be buying a new angle grinder and i have a bunch of hand tools. My goal for this project is to keep it simple and cheap. my main components that i own at the moment are an 8hp Briggs and stratton, bed frame (using for frame) and that's it along with some scrap metal. I want to keep the rest of the build under 200$ so what do you guys think i should buy in order to proceed to my next step?

Check your local CL and find a cheap frame. You can get them once in a while for about $50 - $75 in STL. Where in Ill are you?

Tires, an axle, a centrifugal clutch that will fit your engine, sprockets, chains, spindles, hubs, brakes, pedals, throttle cables, a steering column, tie rods, bearings, a steering wheel. Thats what I got from the top of my head.

Are you talking a real bed frame for your frame? Or using the steel from a bed frame to build a frame?

Could be wrong but I think bed frame steel is brittle in some way. I know it's hard to drill as well. Conduit is also not ideal for kart making.
