Want to add a key to kart

I want to add a key to my go kart for security purposes. I don't want just anyone jumping on and riding it, i.e. Kids and coworkers. If I get the switch pictured do I just put it inline between the motor and kill switch? For example the wire coming from the engine to one terminal of the key switch then from the other key switch terminal to the kill switch? That should work right?

not really!

yes, you can permaCLOSE the Killswitch with a key, but pulling off one of the keyswitch connectors releases the killswitch and you can easily start and ride again.

So you might be able to stop a 4yo from using the kart.. a ten year old might be able to still use it though

I understand that someone that knows how engines work could just unplug a terminal and ride it. But if I put the key inline with the kill switch and soldered the terminals that will do what I want correct?

Yes. It'll take the place of the exsisting kill switch on the motor...
I'm assuming this is a clone motor?

scissors, knife... teeth, a strong pull...

that killswitch (it's likely just your low oil sensor, right?)
I mean how many ways you can think of to disrupt a wire?

Many people know how the killswitch works,
frankly.. most do that care about karts or small engines at least a bit.
Those will not be stopped with a setup like that.

Sure the remaining few you can get rid of, but those wouldn't have touched your kart in the first place.

IMHO you're better off just buying a steering wheel with quick connect,
and removing the steeringwheel from the kart.

Sure thy can start the kart.. but where's the fun in that if you cannot drive it?

Mount a corresponding terminal to your kill switch wire from your engine somewhere on your engine or kart, when parking it attach your wire to it grounding it so it won't start. Just make sure it looks like it belongs there.
