Its me again with my crazy ideas. Anyway, has any1 seen or use a rotary engine/wankel engine in a go kart? i saw a video with it already.

They make little rotary engines for race karts. smaller than a 5hp briggs, and rated for around 50hp. However they also cost quite a bit.

If your looking to use a rotary engine, try to find an old arctic cat panther wankel snowmobile. they were made in the early 70s for a few years, 303cc 23hp or so IIRC, not amazing but its a start.

Not worth the time, effort, $$$$$$$$$$$, etc. there are better options.

wankels have a tendancy to blow for no real reason.. apex seals are a *****.. stick with a 3/4 wheeler motor with reverse!!

Only when idiots don't treat them right..... A properly treated rotary is as reliable as any other engine. People generally treat them like a 4 stroke, it's a completely different thing. They need to be properly warmed up before you rev them, you let them idle for 3-10 mins before driving them otherwise you will have problems. Many people also put the wrong oils in them and neglect checking the level, they burn oil like a 2 stroke, they need the right oil too.
They only got that reputation because people treated them wrong, now that basically all rotaries are owned by enthusiasts (and are mostly treated right) you never really hear of them blowing up.

i have owned over 13 FC3S' 7's i know my fair share about the wankle. you can beat them to death and rev the hell out of them and they still keep going but i have had a couple blow seals on me just trying to find a parking spot. it all depends on what u get from the previous owner, if it was broke in correctly. Alot of my buddys remove their oil lines and just add it to the fuel like a 2stroke. Either way to much of a pain to add to a cart i think.

Yes but most rotary engines can out rev an I/C engine easily and rotary engines can be built up to be some scary as$ track cars easier then piston engines the only true reason I've found that they blow is not properly maintained or some idiot thought he could tune it like any other engine. Wankels are sensitive to tuning if not done right but if it's done correctly and has proper maintenance it'll last a long time. Take it from a puerto rican and an aussie we know our wankels...

Mazda got everything right with the rx8 when it comes to styling and handling but the engine is poop that's stock it can be improved but swapping it out for a true 13b or 20b is the way to go.

I think it's a great idea. If only we had these small rotaries in Australia... and they were cheap

I/C = internal combustion. How is a wankel not an I/C engine? Most people, I would hope, would say a wankel is not a piston engine, rather than saying its not internal combustion engine.
That rotapower thing looks pretty awesome, but I'd imagine they are a bit on the expensive side.
