ok picked this up today. Got it for $500 not sure if its a good deal or not.

These are old pics from the winter I didn't take any of my own yet. Need to fix up a few things on it but I got it running and got it to move, I can't find a reverse gear? & not sure how to check the oil? I no nothing about old beetles. It from a 1969 volkswagon drivetrain, has a 1200 cc volkswagon motor, 4 speed standard tranny.

When I get money saved up I want to turn it in to a trike. like the badass trike pic above.

cool buggy! intresting alternator add on. those arnt the best components to build a trike with but good to learn on. You have a irs suspention there rather than the earlier swing axles like the trike. that will make it very hard if not impossible to use on a mid engine trike. but you can use the engine if needed. though those 1200cc engines are desireble by the formula vee racing croud you could probrobly get 500$ for the engine alone. are you on samba yet? Theres alot to know about vw's as you probrobly alrady figured out. theyre simple but theres alot of different parts through the years and they dont always all fit together without some trying. I suspect your going to have a rather large stash of extra vw parts before your done with this progect. Like most vw people do! :)

I think it is a swing arm axle? There is a bar on each side going from the frame to the axles and then there is a bar looks like it might be a torsion bar?

Anyone know how to check the oil and or even do an oil and oil filter change on a old vw motor?

I also have to replace then Manual Trans Shift Coupler Bushing. I was wondering if I can use a U-joint of some sort?

same as a normal car drain the sump you might have to pull the whole sump pan if there is no drain . youll need new gaskets if thats the case. there is no filter. there is a dipstick in there somewhere. those are definatly cv axles a swing axle wouldnt have cv boots on the wheel side. the tortion bar is inside the tortion tube that holds those swing arms in place.
