Ah, I think I see what you're saying; the kingpin mounting point is farther inboard then the tierod mounting hole but, it's not. Because the kingpin is on an angle, you need to take the reference point from the centre (as in height); the measurement between the top of the kingpins will be less than that of the bottom of the kingpins

correct.
Well, it is a little offset (half the kingpin dia.),
but that doesn't make any difference I'm afraid.

As I said, you're correct,
the minimal offset that this spindles provide will have no effect
or to be precise no noticeable effect.

I don't have much of an update. I have a clutch and a brake, but I want to re-do the frame where the engine mounts. The plans make the front axle wider than the rear. I built it like the plans, but now I want the front and rear wheels to be even.

That is not my kart, it is from the plans. I forgot to say I am making the rear axle wider to match the front. It should be easier to re-do the rear, than the front.

I thought someone would have commented on how odd it seems (at least to me) to have the front wheels wider apart than the rear wheels. Anyway I made spacers to set the rear wheels out more, to be more inline with the front wheels. I got the engine on, but I still need a chain and I need cables for the throttle and brake.

I finished the kart, but I didn't update this thread. I could not get the throttle cable to stay in place the way the plans show, I had to atatch the cable end dirrectly to the gas pedal. The throttle linkage plan makes a good throttle/pedal return, but the cable end would not stay in place. Here is the throttle linkage plan. I have no other pictures right now.

Why do they do that? Do yhey handle better when the front is wider?

My son's go kart is the same I made it wider at the front because at the moment it has the wheels ( from a mini bike ) inside the frame but I designed it so a live axle could be fitted with wheel on the outside later , does not seem to affect the handling, although my massive nephew got it on two wheels trying to do a 90' turn at speed : )
