I recently dicovered a Victa 70 series Mark 2 lawnmower in my shed it has been in there 20+ years and I think it s 30+ years old. It is a two stroke engine and I am planning to attach it to a gokart of some sort, what would I need to do to it to get it to start? Should I just put some two stroke in it and pull the zip start lead? Thanks in advance.:cheers2:

Photos to follow.

That's what I'd do! The carb might be gummed up with old 2-stroke oil, so if it doesn't start that's where I'd check first. Remember when you shut down these engines you turn off the fuel and let them run until the bowl is empty. That way you never have oil residue gumming up the carbs.

Yea start it up! If it wont start, like modelenginer said, clean the carb, put fresh gas in it with 2stroke oil and get a spark plug to get this baby running:thumbsup:

I have found that the "old 2 stroke fuel gum" easily dissolves in gasoline and actually preserves the carbs in some cases. I once fired up a 70 year old chain saw that had sat for 10+ years, drained the gas tank, cleaned the strainer/gas valve, refilled with fresh fuel, it was running on the third pull. Its a 48" 2 man Mall model 10 IIRC.

Is your model exactly the same as that one? If so, excellent! Great motor for a kart, you'll need to buy an adapter so you can fit a clutch to it (I'l post more on that later).

I'l be intrested to see how this goes!(I love Victas)

I am having a little trouble removing the bolt from the drive shaft, it is holding on the blades and the engine cant be removed with it on. I have tried wedging the flywheel but 6 of the fins have sheared of already. I have access to limeted cutting equipment (hacksaw, boltcutter and hammer.) Photos to follow when I get home.

Remove the sparkplug and run some rope into the cylinder, that will stop the engine turning.

I stick a peice of wood in between the cutting disc and the base of the mower, don't use that flywheel with broken fins, seriously. You'll need the flywheel of another victa with points ignition (more than 35 years old), other ones wont fit. I hope you can find one!
