"Suss out" I'll check out how much it will cost to ship a Victa motor to the US. The victa itself could cost up to $25 AU, dime a dozen isn't free (but really depends on what I pay for it, if It's only 5 bucks, it's on me). As for the exhaust, only a straight pipe will be added. Noise is incomprehensible when you can see combustion taking place. As for falling apart with an expansion pipe; I doubt it; it's pretty bulky. However, it's not really worth trying IMO, a better carb is about as much as I can do. I have done minimal porting, mainly just cleaning out 38 years worth of carbon deposits.

Heard of Victa many years ago and only because I closely follow the 2 cycle market. I tried to purchase a 160cc Victa mower on Ebay but shipping was astronomical. Seller recommended I buy one in the states. Were never available here.
I understand that Victa is now owned by B&S Corp. Sad.

What'll be interesting is seeing how the motor is built, internally. Russ' pix of the Lawnboy innards reveals a pretty well-built motor, (not so with the Tecumseh 2-strokes). Now, we have the Victa with its cast-iron cylinder... I'm guessing it must be a quality piece, like the Lawnboy....
On a different note, I still haven't broken open the B/S 2 stroke (which is supposedly built by Mitsubishi), but it also offers some promise to karters. Unless something goes horribly wrong with it, I'm NOT going to break it open, as I tend to make things worse when I do exploratories.

Don't know about it being a quality piece, but Victa's were built tough. These things just don't die. Their a stubborn motor, if you will. Powertorque 160cc models are best for karting purposes, alas I have the predecessor.
Russ, are you aware that restored "toe-cutter" or Rotomo Victa mowers can fetch up to $3,000 AU.

hey!!! im doing a similar thing as you exept making a mini quadbike for the good old victa engine. il be putting expansion pipes an stuff like that on mine.

after porting the crap out of my victa barel i decided to put it apart a bit more only to discover the crankshaft is pitted 
putting an end to that engines life. oh well, it was free after all, on the hunt for yet another victa now 
il be making an expansion pipe when i have the materials an im searching for a 175 motorbike carby, looking forward to seeing if 7k rpm is possible
btw robin, they run ball bearings on the crank
these engines are very well made and they are unkillable, just to give you an idea of what they are like.... my grandma bought a victa 2 stroke brand new a couple of years ago, i was over at her house a couple of months after she had bought it and offered to mow her lawn for her, i asked where the fuel and 2 stroke oil is and she repleid "whats 2 stroke oil?" yep thats right, she'd be been running it on strait fuel for a couple of months, she used it once a week aswel, that mower was lubricated by miricles.... the engine still runs fine now, authough with oil now lol
