Very new to karting

Greetings all.
I’m so new to go karts that I have still haven’t bought one. I’ve also never owned one. I’m more of a Jeeper because I’m a pretty big guy but as a kid I always wanted a go kart. So my oldest is overdue for a kart and finances have given the green light to get a couple of them. The problem I see is I can’t find any brick and mortar stores near me and all the karts I’m finding online are just cheap looking junk.
Long post trimmed down a bit I’m here for the knowledge and to avoid some expensive first time buyer mistakes.
Also I’m a maker for fun so I’m hoping this will be fun.

What are you wanting to do with them? Old race karts are pretty cheap if you have a good place to ride them. Craigslist and Facebook marketplace seem to be good places to find used karts.

Good question, I’ve got 6 kids and one on the way and we live in Las Vegas where we have several dry lake beds and countless desert trails. So I’m looking for a couple of buggy types with double seats probably one mid size and one mini.
As i look around online i find i keep looking back to Craigslist and Facebook for updates and I’ve even started searching for other towns and states to make a trip to. I suppose I’m probably just hard to please and impatient but what else is new. “I want it perfect and I want it right now!”

Mass majority of kart makers have folded in the last decade. Most online are Chinese made, some decent some suck.
