Vertical Shaft Gokart

Hello Everyone,

I'm going to be building a go-kart vehicle. Let's say I use a 2 cycle Lawnboy engine like from this mower:

So, how would I make that engine be able to power an axle? My original plans involved miter/bevel gears, however I can't find a place that sells them, and the junkyard won't e-mail me back. Is there another way? If you know where to get gears that are under $50 (for 2 of them), please tell. I know that you can tear the engine apart and move the carb, etc. but I don't think I would be capable of doing that.

Why doesn't the junkyard answer my e-mail? I sent it to the correct address, and it would take them 5 minutes to give me the information I need. Come on!

it's a 2-stroke you don't have to tear into the engine dude just reposition the carb and the gas tank and you'll be fine.

Yea dude, there is atleast 2 people on this site that i know of who have used or are using lawnboy engines in a horizontal position for a go kart. Just reposition the carb and get a shaft adapter for the clutch.

That's great! I heard of that somewhere but I thought you still had to do something inside of the mower. Now I don't have to buy a new engine!

no thats a 4-stroke.

2-stroke has no oil system because the oil is mixed with the gas neither does it have a valvetrain.

4-stroke has a oil system and valvetrain, gas and oil are seperate.
