Me and my friend got given an el cheapo 4 stroke push mower engine. so instead of wrecking it (literaly) we wanted to put it on a bike, obviously its a vertical shaft engine, but with a little bit of work and some elbow grease i got it to run horizontaly. first i took of the carb and made an adaptor out of plate stainless so its upright. i dont run it for long on its side and i tip it back and let it run with whats left in the carb to lube her up again.

2 of my Briggs (Quantum 6.5 hp and Classic 3.5 and 3.75 hp) V-shafts are 7/8" with woodruff as well as straight keys. Honda GVC 160 is .984 or 63/64's and woodruff keyed.
Lawn-Boys are 7/8" and 63/64" with no keys.

⅝" along with ¾" are the 2 most common bore sizes for centrifugal clutchs. I've never seen smaller than ⅞" on a vertical shaft. Doesn't mean they don't exist.
Will have to cut a straight keyway as no clutch, that I am aware of, uses a woodruff key.
Here is ¼" keyway I cut (kudos to Mr. Kibble) into DuraForce crankshaft. Diameter of this shaft is .984 or 63/64". These are normally keyless.
