Hey guys this is my first post here and I need some experienced help. I just got a new lawn mower and I've decided to use the old engine to make a petrol powered go kart. What I actually need your help with is if I should change it to a horizontal shat engine or leave it as a vertical shaft. Also I am probably going to use a live axle for ease but if I leave the engine as vertical shaft how would you recommend I connect it?

depending on your engine it'll be quite a task to conver it to a horizontal shaft.

So... :useless: ;)

Please post info and pics of the engine in question, we might be able to help.

Basically on a go kart you'll have a horizontal PTO on your engine since that's easier
to attach to an axle sprocket.

A transaxle instead will require a horizontal shaft (or modification)

Honestly, the time & effort to convert it is not worth it, you'd only be able to use it on a lightweight &/or very undergeared (meaning slow) kart or minibike...
