Is this an acceptable place for the sealing ring to be on the intake valve of my 5hp B&S? I still see a small ring of unground metal at the edge of the valve head so I assume its good to go. I know that ideally the ring should be close to the center
(Not sure why it uploaded the pic sideways)

You're right, ideally it would be closer to the center but you have a clearly defined sealing area which in my opinion is pretty wide... but If it passes the leak test you should be fine.

What ive found helps with the sideways pics is to take the pictures in landscape and crop them, works for my android anyhow.

This is a new block that was put together by a friend of mine. It should have a custom ground cam for a PZ22 along with a special billet rod without a pressurized oil scoop (but still has a dipper).

I'll do the leak test after I get done deburring the ports. I'm thinking about watching KartFabs video on the eyebrow shaving but i'll practice on a junk block first. I've already prepped this good block for porting

I just had closer look at that pic, theres alot of pitting on the one bit, was it rusted at one point? It MAY leak a little which on the intake side isn't the end of the world (if it's not TOO bad) but on a exhaust valve that would be VERY bad! Carbon will build up and create hot spots which could (and probably would) lead to a burnt valve and that'll ruin your day in a hurry! Just be ready that it may leak a little, I like to let mine sit over night. I personally use Marvel Mystery Oil, I always have it around and it works well for me.

This is the intake valve. This block has never had any rust. There's definitely no pitting in the valve either, I just lapped it today. Its stainless steel and looks to be brand new with an hour or two on it (very little wear). It does have some carbon buildup from the previous owner that I havent cleaned off yet

I understand it's the intake valve but what's up with this? (Circled in red) That's right on the edge of your sealing surface.

There is still carbon buildup around the edge of the valve. Tomorrow i'm going to clean the valves up with a soft brass wire wheel, do some porting/polishing and re-lap the valves a bit more

Porting/polishing is done and the eyebrows are shaved. It should flow much better now

I'm waiting on the full gasket set to come in for a leak free motor and hopefully it has two crankshaft seals to replace the current ones. Along with that I also have some +.100" billet lifters ordered too so I can get the valve lash back into spec
