What is the best way to go. to use a jack-shaft or not. I have a yerf dog I am thinking of putting a 13hp engine on it. I see torque Converter kits that don't use a jack-shaft for up to 16hp engines. I am concerned about twisting the backing plate under high torque situations. What do ya'll think?

Some 40 series have back plates some don't. Technically those do have jackshafts, driver pulley to driven, driven rides on the jackshaft with the sprocket. It's not a bad idea to have the jackshaft to be supported by extra bearings. The back plate just makes it a lot easier for belt alignment so you do not stretch the belt too much either.
