Finally. I've got an upgrade! Thats right! An upgrade. A genuine Honda gx160! (I got to protect it. My dad wants its piston head:lolgoku:.) I got to put some elbow grease into it, but eh what the heck?;it's going to be the new beast of 2013. Hey, I just got to wake it up from its sleep. :cheers2: When I make it roar, its going on my go kart. Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cylinder head. And you gotta sleep some time!:roflol:

How many times have I said that I'd sooner have a used GX than a new clone? Well- That's exactly what happened. I got a great deal on a used GX160 block, minus airbox, carb, tank, and muffler.

All of these parts I already have from my GX200 Clone, so- no problem there. The engine was used in a super stock racing class, I found it on Kijiji.

Compression is good, as is spark. Just needs some cleanup and paint- and on to the Green Machine it goes!

I told you Dad was cooking something up! ;)

The governor has been removed, and a vac port for a fuel pump added. I believe everything else (internally) is stock. I did note that there were various colours of paint over many of the fasteners. I'm pretty reasonably sure the paint was a method of "tamper-sealing" after technical inspections.

I'm rather happy with my purchase. Not only will Toy Jr end up with a quality engine, he also gets some wrenching experience to go with it- rather than simply unboxing an engine and going.

It's alive!!!!!!!! Today we got it running and on the kart. (With some difficulty.) I even got to ride it. It's really fast. (37mph 59kph.) Almost as fast as my dad's kart. (66kph.) It's really fun to ride.
Thanks dad for buying it and helping me with it.
I now just got to wait for the rain to stop so I can ride it again.
It's ALLLIIIIIVVVVEEEE!!!!!!!!

Hey!!! That's 67.2Km/h for mine! (right now, I'll take every last klik I can get!) LOL

I'm quite impressed with this thing. We installed my (unused) factory carb, airbox, muffler, and fuel tank. Rigged up my own breed of throttle (no governor) and had to spend some time getting everything fitted and aligned. Cut and installed some new chain, and crossed our fingers.

Lit up on the very first pull! Did a bit of throttle and carb tweaking, and away we went! Daddy did the shakedown run (for safety's sake) and then handed it over while I whipped out the trusty radar gun. A couple of calculations later, and it seems the boy was turning more than 6200RPM!!! Wow! I didn't expect those kind of numbers!

What I do know- stock carb, jet, intake, muffler, and flywheel. No governor (duh! LOL) Timing advanced by a few degrees- I pulled the flywheel off for inspection, and found the key to be filed down, although I didn't mic it.

What I do NOT know is what internal mods may have been done. Considering it's revving over 6000 with no valve flutter, I suspect some changes inside.

I also know she's running just a touch lean, so if it stops bloody raining, I'll open up the jet a size.

Go Son Go! (Just please don't kill yourself! Remember- if in ANY doubt, smack that kill switch!)

Wow!!!

:smiley_omg::roflol: I can't believe how spoiled kids are these days..... And for the record, Chris, you and I are basically the same age.....

And, for the record, I need to say this; if junior ever gives you any :censored: about how you deprived him in his youth, send him my way. Even better, if you sign the disclosure paperwork, I've got plenty of neighbors that have plenty of livestock to look after...

Short & sweet; most of my life has been helping to keep the family farm, the family farm. If you've managed to put a little aside to let your kids be kids, go for it!!!

I don't regret my upbringing; it just has such a large contrast with the environment you are trying to have for your kids....

Just don't give them the Paris Hilton treatment..... breaking it to them gently now that they might have to actually work for a living when they grow up, will save you real $$$$ in therapy down the road....:cheers2::surrender:

Well- you now how it is- as parents we strive to make life better for our kids than it was for us. I once had a bare go kart frame, and an engine. After years, it never became anything- and that's the closest I got. That turns itself into 2 things- 1)Reliving my youth (as I wanted it) by having go karts now and 2)Experiencing these things with my kids- teaching them to wrench, having fun, driving, etc.

And no- MY kids will never be spoiled to the level of stupidity you see these days when you look around. Justin Beiber, you say? Kid needs a serious tune-up, and I don't mean plugs, points, cap and rotor.

Returning to the topic- Toy2 is really diggin' on this thing. We had a wicked downpour earlier, and now that there's puddles in the driveway that you could hold olympic swimming trials in, he's good to go for more. I think it might be camcorder time...
