Hello, I am new to this kind of competitive karting, and I was wondering what is the best, cheapest, safest, fastest, and most durable kart out there. I really want it to be cheap. I also want to do some sort of upgrade to it (with the online instruction ffrom you guys) so please post what I can do in those terms. I imagine I would be racing on dirt AND pavement, aith left and right turns. Thanks!

these thing vary in price massively from give away to thousands of dollars regardless of engine size.
i dont know for sure but there is no raceing on both on and off road karts
it is either those low down track karts or full buggies.
if u just want to race some mates in the streets and the forest then u should get a kart like most of these people have which is powered by a simple engine of 3 to 13 hp and is driving the back wheel with a simple solid axil
these are the cheapest but still alot of fun.
i cant quote an exact price but someone else will.

The best ways are to...

1. Find one on Craigslist or some other local classified adds

2. Find someone to build you a frame and you put the rest together

3. Buy a kit and put it all together. (You will need a welder and other tools)

Like Jeremy said, where are you located? That will make a big difference in where to find one.

Also, you must decide on a certain frame style for a purpose and then see if where you will race will allow your frame, some are picky. Just asking for cheap frames and cheap motors may land you an outdated, unacceptable frame with a new clone in a shifter class. Find where you will race and the classes and styles then pick from there, don't just buy cause it's cheap. Impulse costs more than through thought.

I want a kart I can ride on paved tracks, has a pretty cheap motor, and has the ability to be upgraded. In terms of where I am to be racing, I'm not sure where or if there is any tracks around STL. If you could help me find a track and its motor and body limits, than we can move form there. Thanks!

I am thinking about buying the kart up there that JeremyBentham posted that he said was on hell of a deal. Would you guys help me put it together and fix it up? What tracks would it work on?

left and right turns.

Cool, That's called Sprint kart racing.

That Coyote bullet does seem to be an awesome deal, I did some research on the older Bullet models. They were very competitive back in the 80's but you'd have a hard time winning against the more modern designs sold in the last 10 years or so. It'd be a great kart to race around on parking lots or some of the back-yard type race tracks were most everyone else has older karts like that too. That's the kinda track I race at.

Here's a link to your towns Sprint kart tracks website: http://www.slka.net/dnn2/Home.aspx
They dont have much info posted, but I found a listing of all they're classes:

2010 MATC Clone Junior 2010
2010 MATC Clone Rookie 2010
2010 MATC Clone Senior 2010
2010 MATC Kid Kart 2010
2010 MATC TAG 60 2010
2010 MATC Yamaha Junior 2010
2010 MATC Yamaha Rookie 2010
2010 MATC Yamaha Senior Sportsman 2010
SLKA 2010 Animal Jr. 2010
SLKA 2010 Clone Junior 2010
SLKA 2010 Clone Rookie 2010
SLKA 2010 Clone Senior 2010
SLKA 2010 Kid Kart Restricted 2010
SLKA 2010 Kid Kart Unrestricted 2010
SLKA 2010 Shifter 2010
SLKA 2010 TAG 60 2010
SLKA 2010 TAG JR 2010
SLKA 2010 TAG SR 2010
SLKA 2010 Yamaha Junior 2010
SLKA 2010 Yamaha Rookie 2010
SLKA 2010 Yamaha Senior Sportsman

That Coyote Bullet comes with Briggs flathead engines/parts, I'm not seeing a class to race that engine...

Your age and height will kinda determine what type of Sprint kart and engine you should buy, and what class's that track would let you race in.

It might be a good idea to call/email your track for some info before you buy any kart, this is the only contact info I could find: http://www.slka.net/dnn2/Information/KidKartNationals.aspx

Any comments concerning this lot? The OP is considering it. Any comments would be appreciated.

http://stlouis.craigslist.org/mcy/2155062183.html

Like I said, I would have already bought this stuff; 3+ motors, Digitron, tires, headers, etc?!?!?! If 1 of those motors run, it's a SCREAMING DEAL if ya ask me.
I'd make sure at least 1 motor runs, offer him 3 large and start loading it up.

Help a brotha out.
