Unicorn Hunt

Seems like every time I need a part I might as well be looking for a unicorn--everybody knows what they are but no one knows where to find one.

So, I need the keyed washer for a 1 inch shaft for a 40 series torque converter. It's the last part that goes on before the lock washer and the 3/8x24tpi hex head bolt. Sort of looks like Abe Lincoln's hat with a slot in the brim.

I found 3/4 inch shaft keyed washers at many places, but none for the 40 series 1 inch shaft.

I searched and searched and called a number of the parts houses.

Anybody know where to find one of these? Thanks in advance.

Its called a "pacman" washer. Used on 20 and 30 series not the 40.

Hang on, what dont I understand here? I have that for my 40 series?

Ok I looked, it doesnt have the key slot on the outter rim but its keyed for the shaft and driver.

Edwin, Yep, that's the item. It's not the 30 series pac-man type like my picture above, but is keyed for the shaft. Any idea where I can get one? I know it sounds stupid (me perhaps) but I looked high and low on the interweb, go kart parts houses, and even called a few 800 parts houses.

I think you can find the washer on Ebay but it doesnt come with the bolt.

Its saying its for the 30 series also but specifies 1" so Im not sure.

Edwin, Thanks, that may be the one, but it does not appear to be keyed. The 420 Predator does have a 1" crank shaft. Big reveal for me is that the pac-man washer is not a fit for the 420.

Well, I had to go disassemble mine and take a look. The washer is not keyed. Its the driver that has the key built in. The washer only needs to fit in the hole, no key needed.

EDIT: So yea, it seems that washer only needs to keep the driver centered. It makes sense though. If the washer were to be keyed, it could have torque applied to it, no matter how little, and it could back out the bolt? Yea?

Thanks to all for the help. I ordered the unicorn washer from Amazon. The other day I went to the hardware store to buy some 5/8 inch washers. They were 14 cents each! I went home and drilled holes in some nickles. Probably a federal crime, but cost effective--don't tell anyone...
