So, my next door neighbour and I had an amazing idea: Build a UK Road Legal Go Kart. People have told me, "don’t do it", "they are not safe on the roads", "Cars can’t see you", however, I live on the edge and quite frankly; I'm going to give it a shot. I have seen a ready-made one for sale through a number of websites and It doesn’t look great and by spec, it doesn’t appear to be fast.

I have grown up with bikes all my life and have a decent mechanical background, my neighbour is a welder by trade and will be fabricating the indicator brackets, engine mounts and so on.

I have decided on a ROTEX 250, 2 stroke engine as its the base engine for the Aprilia RS250 and statistically, every teenager will write one off at some point in their lifetime; thus meaning they are cheap with the addition of an awesome power to weight ratio.

Has anyone tried to get a go kart through the UK V627/1 - ‘Built up vehicle inspection report’?

Can anyone share any advice on building a road legal go-kart?

Is there a odometer for a go-kart so I can get it through its tests?
Any help and advice (for the exception of telling me not to do it) will be appreciated.

I would think you could get some type of speedometer that would work. Be pretty cool to have something like that to ride.

The Ariel atoms are street able and do come with a bill of sale for titling purposes. There are a few in the states with tags.

And this has been discussed somewhere in here before. Main downfall is them being so low that cars and trucks run over the vehicle. There are some bad pics in that thread. That's the only reason I remember its on here Everytime. I just don't remember which thread exactly. Maybe somebody else can remember.

There are always larger vehicles on the road I would not be scared to drive a Atom around I ride motorcycles on the street its all about being aware of your surroundings. Also don't play chicken with larger vehicles. They make speedos for the sport quads and stuff so I am sure you could adapt it to work on a go kart.

I believe the laws are pretty lax in the uk I have seen street legal sport quads there!
