Has anyone messaged SpiderKarts telling them to either provide a link to a rack that fits or to add to the plans to build the steering around the rack?

From what he has said on his forum, .. he has read all the Arachnid threads.

Here is his comment;

Hello all! WOW a lot has happened in the time I have been gone. Looks like we are building some karts! LOL I read through the other forum to see what was happening. I am back if any of you want to chat at this point. I have been out of the country for a few months and I am sorry for the no response. Looks like we have some pros here!

That was over a week ago and he has yet to answer any questions. So As you can see, ... he has not shown his face anywhere on the Arachnid threads. :furious2:

Anyhow, ... as far as "I'M" concerned, ... at this point, ... who cares.

Product support is CLEARLY needed and is purposely being avoided in my opinion.

Daniel, (the designer)

Enjoy the money I gave you, ... it will definitely be the last! :toetap05:

I am considering abandoning the Arachnid plans and the moment and starting over with my own design :(

Ok, now I'm confused.

Without sounding harsh, ... You said it's a major pain to modify or redo the suspension block of which isn't even completed, but, ... Your thinking of making a whole new kart from your own design?

I remade mine in 2 days, ... the same amount of time you spent looking on the internet just looking for a rack, and mine was mostly finished.

Yeah sorry about that Bill, just letting off a little steam. You guys have been great and offered some fantastic advice, I really appreciate the help. I'm going to stick with, I'll take this Arachnid for a drive if it kills me :)

We should get some T shirts printed :) I have a new rack sorted now thanks to Mikko which has really lifted my spirits. I'll break out the MIG tomorrow and get the main chassis finished and maybe start on the seat frame. Still not sure about my spindles, but I think I'll go with what I've got, and if it needs some work in the future then I can come back to it.

Made some nice progress today, the main chassis is now welded up and pretty much complete. The seat fits nicely in the frame but I'm still undecided wether to raise it up slightly and tilt it back. The issue I had with the steering rack is hopefully now sorted, with thanks to Mikko I have an 11" steering rack on the way. One thing that I may need to do is install a removable steering wheel boss, I have a hunch that it's going to be quite tight once the steering column is in. Anyway, some pics.

And just for the hell of it I quickly mocked up what the finished item should look like.

If you decide to build one of these and you are over 6 foot tall like me, then I would strongly recommend stretching the chassis. I added 5" into the frame which is just about enough for me at 6'1".

Wobbly, looking really good. Do I ever wish I had thought of stretching my frame out like yours. :censored: May have to yet. What a difference that stretch makes to the final look. Time to take a day off, relax, have a beer and just admire your progress. :cheers2:

Looking really good! :drool5:
I'll send the steering rack on Tuesday.
So you scretched the main frame 5", did you add that 5" on the MF115-1507 pieces only or did you put some extra length on MF26-0638 tubes too?

Edit: I'm 6'4" so I need to extend it at least that 5", maybe even 6 or 7"

i designed my kart so that your feet fit inside the suspension block. very tight fit but shortens the wheelbase and gives you more room for all the driveline stuff in the rear. Keep in mind that you could easily take the gas tank off to fit the engine much closer to the seat, then either get another gas tank or make a mount for it somewhere else

Mikko - The parts I stretched were the MF115-1507 and the MF16-90 by 5". If your 6'4" then you need to stretch by at least 7" over stock maybe more. It's pretty tight were your feet sit and if you have big feet then it might even be worth widening the front too. Might be a good idea to cut some wood to roughly the right sizes and mock up the floor plan to see if you fit.

Theo - I measured the distance on the floor plan from behind the seat to the front of the main frame where the suspension block joins and it comes to 48".

The Machine - I like the idea of removing the tank, that would allow the engine to sit further forward in the rear sub frame. I think the rear sub frame will take a bit of re-engineering as it is. The engine I have is quite a chunky thing and I think the sub frame may need widening a little and certainly strengthing.

Wobbly, back to the engine, are you running a sprocket and chain off the reduction unit to the live axle or what's the plan. I should be back to my engine mounts by the middle of this week and you and I have basically the same engine, I'll be using a jackshaft setup with a comet 40 is the only difference. Once I have the rear axle in place, then I can see what I have for room for an engine mount. I am leaning towards two full length 1 1/4 pieces of square stock running for and aft at the moment. Then a 1/4 plate on top of that, so I can slide it to tighten the chain. I'll keep you posted.

Ya, 48 is short, you could widen out the top rail where your knees are. I would do this anyway plus lengthen it 7".
