I'd suggest replacing those pillowblock bearings on your jackshaft. The stamped steel bearings are not as durable or strong enough to take the load from a buggy motor. Look into some cast ones.

We'll see, these stamped bearing are rated for 1000lbs of dynamic load capacity. A casted one would take about 2600lbs. I saw some jackshaft made with flange mounted stamped bearing, witch take the same dynamic load as base mounted like mine.
How much load do you think the chain is applying when torquing?
