I want to know if this will work I have a gokart with a spacey back end and it has a live axel . The engine sits a the way to the left connected with a centrifuge clutch and a 10 inch 41 sprocket. I want to put a 3-5 inch sprocket on the right of the shaft andount a second engine and clutch but linked to smaller sprocket. I wanna know if I would gain speed by using the multiple engines sort of like a 2 speed transmission? Thankyou

Wow. It's not impossible but you would need to independently control each one, you would have to let off the gas completely on the first so the clutch disengages before hitting the throttle on the second engine.

Yes that's what I was thinking on doing . Also running two gas pedals I don't see why when the primary engine reaches speed I could hit the gas on the secondary and continue gaining speed while the primary just idles then when I slow down I go back to the primary while the secondary idles

This is a very interesting theory, I'm unsure if it's ever been tested. The only possible problem I can forsee is, if the primary clutch binds for any reason, it could cause damage to either the clutch, the engine or even both...

Do you already have 2 engines? If not I think you should just get a torque converter

i also think that the second motor would need a clutch that will engage at a high rpm.
to make this simpler you can always run 2 controlls on the steering wheel. kinda in the area of an oddy but the left one is low speed and the right is high speed. i used the 2 finger grips on my zooma kart and its not that bad to control with them.

Traxx, I think you missed the point: Potentially, the secondary engine can be geared at 2:1, making for a super quick kart. Even a cvt can't safely achieve that kind of gearing

I get the point. I have a question for the op where do you plan on driving that fast? My last cart went 40 mph, single speed clutch driven and that was insane.

The kart will go 40-45 right now with the 6.5 hp robin subaru engine with the 10 inch sprocket and it will haul two people up a hill no problem with its current gear ratio. We did a speed test with a vehicle behind me. I already have the other engine with a brand new comet clutch 3 weight and I already mounted my 5 inch sprocket to the axel I just need to mount the engine now. I drive around backroads where I live. There's not much traffic ever so it's perfect. And by the way the last engine I had on it was a Briggs 8hp and it went about 55 and that's what I miss too bad that engine was a turd lol.

Its a cool idea, but not really worth having 2 engines to deal with IMHO. However I will look forward to your results!

I have though about using some electromagnetic clutches to give a wider range of speed. Have one for low end and then you could "shift" the second for a higher speed. I still may do this someday...

Wow I almost got it done I'm gonna weld my second engine plate on tomarow I already pre dabbed everything up then I'll rig up a chain throttle and I'll put a "y" on my gas line since I have 2 gallon motorcycle tank. That should be plenty for two engines. I'll run a desperate throttle and road test it and let you guys know how it goes I can't wait to do this it sucks it's already night time lol if I had a **** garage though I'd prolly be up all night
