Halloween night, one of my father's friends came over, and noticed me welding. He is a teacher I know, at my school. So today I got to talking to him, before class..

Turns out my History teacher was a welder before he took up teaching. He was thrilled.

The friend of my father, was telling me that one Saturday morning he wants me to meet a friend of his, who does rescue bodies, for EMS services. He's like "One thing, you have to drink coffee..." I started laughing...

Anyway, they were both recommending that once I get a bit decent at it, I put a small ad out, offering small tack welding jobs, for $20 or so... lol...

Any way, moral of the story, you just never know who does what. And I guess if I ever have any questions< i have someone else, besides a forum to turn...

lol... Its intresting what you learn every day.

I may... Im not that confident with my welding yet. Maybe in another few months, when can be absolutely certain... I dont want to stick my neck on the block until I am sure the axe wont fall at any breeze...

Hey, get some practise, and go for it! Your best bet is simply not agreeing to do a job that you feel you're incapable of. For example, if Farmer Joe wants you to zap a broken tiller tine back together, do it! You can even offer a guarantee, such as if your repair fails within a year, you'll fix it for free, or offer a refund, or whatever. On the other hand, I'm building a new tandem trailer for my buddy's 26' Bayliner cabin cruiser, you may wish to take a pass on that... Good luck!

I think my father's friend might be certified as well... but definately been working at it for a while.... But I thought it mean't something when someone with experience looks at your welds, and thinks they are good... He had thought I had been welding for a while, by the look on his face, when I told him I had only been doing it about 2 weeks now...

A tiller tine is like the tooth on a rototiller. Making things such as hitch carriers (for coolers and cargo) and working tables or benches. Shop stools etc. Stuff that doesn't carry 26' Bayliners.

Well, yeah- Let's just say that the first time I built something that was going to be dragged around at 70+ MPH, I was a wee bit nervous! Similar, too- It was a new axle for a 15' ski boat trailer...

Yea... one thing I have noticed... If you get a nice bead... its generally crap, if you get an ugly bead, then it will most likely last 100 years...
