Mate, it didn't work.

You can't use forced induction on a 2 stroke, all the boost goes strait out the exhaust port.

Here's a plausible one, we'll see where this goes.

Now, using this air compressor as an example (which by no means miniature), it flows 13cfm, lets assume it does so at 1000rpm. Take your average 6.5hp clone which is 196cc.

Now, lets assume the air compressor has a 2000 rpm limit before something breaks ect and your clone is ungoverned and will rev to 5000rpm, this would mean you would need a 2.5:1 or lower drive to the compressor.

Lets assume your clone is doing 2500rpm (to make things easy to calculate). The air compressor will be spinning at 1000rpm and moving 13cfm, 13cfm= 368119cc per minute=368.12 cc per revolution.

From those figures I calculated this set up would produce a huge 2.76 bar (40psi), well that would make your cone go faster! For a few seconds at least... That would give a theoretical 2.72 times increase in horse power (17.69hp, actually) from the clone, it'd just blow it into small pieces though. It'd take 2.5hp to drive the thing too. :devil2:

Just because I'm bored, I'l calculate it for a 12v one. Using this as an example, lets assume it turns at 1500rpm, so 1.35cfm=38228cc per minute=25.49 cc per revolution, still using the clone as an example, lets assume it is turning 1500rpm for ease of calculation, that gives me a calculated boost of -.74 bar. Not enough to even run the engine with.

Picture of your set up? I'm guessing you just plumbed the outlet hose of the compressor into the inlet whilst retaining your air filter ect (plugging it into the breather port would be easiest). That could give a very small gain (could bypass the restriction of the airfilter, that's not the best way of explaining it but I know what I mean:D) but will never produce any boost.

I'm building up my 4HP Briggs with a smog pump for a supercharger and converting it to OHV using the head from a Honda Lawnmower, that will hopefully make a respectable amount of boost and power. The biggest problem I'm having is that I can't get the smog pump apart! It's seized and I need to fix it!

My only thought on the on-board compressor is that MAYBE if you put the fitting or whatever in the welch plug on a stock Briggs carby, aiming straight down the bore at the intake valve, it MIGHT atomize fuel a bit better, but little else. The motor only displaces what it displaces.
Turbo-ing a small engine is POSSIBLE with custom manifolds, EFI, wastegate, and a turbo you can fit in your pocket, but, it's simply not a PRACTICAL performance booster.
You can get a race cam and carb for a fraction of the cost (hassle) and gain noticeably improved performance that is, essentially, "plug and play."
I'm not saying 'don't waste your time building this,' quite the opposite, as I encourage all sorts of motor experimentation and so forth.
Look at it like this:
you and your buddy both get karts with Briggs 5 Hp motors.
You immediately buy a billet rod, a cam , and a carb, while your buddy spends his every waking hour engineering a +turbo set-up.
You will have installed your parts and ridden your kart hundreds of hours before your buddy is even ready to race.
When he is ready to race, if he can keep his mobile experiment running properly, even if his kart faster than yours, you, having ridden the course lap after lap, will blow his doors off anyway due to your experience.

I'm basically just saying learn to crawl before you run.

If you want to increase your power just get yourself a pair of adjustable power bands.. goes on in 5 minuets at tops and you can a normal brigs 5 horse power adjusted from 50 hp to 100 ft lbs of toruqe! Best investment i ever made.. EVER.

No not at all. Every motor has one its just people dont know what to look for to adjust them. They are really hard to explane what to do over the internet. I had a old guy show me the trick 3 months ago. so far ive done it to every small motor i have.
