I'm kinda glad that most of these motors have a cover that will somewhat contain or at least redirect the blast, potentially into the motor. So that saves shrapnel danger, then again there is the boiling hot oil and gasoline to contend with. Naa prob, it's all good..

You think a >18 gauge shroud is going to contain an exploding flywheel? Not a chance. The outside surface of a 10" diameter flywheel, spinning at 5000rpm, is traveling just under 150mph.

No, im pretty sure it will be useless.
This is all sarcasm. Im well aware of self destructing spinning objects.

Well, there are always other methods too, like taking off the fan off the flywheel to reduce drag and polishing it from behind to cope up with the performance increase. How's that?

Sigh, all of this has been cussed and discussed in multitudinous threads already...

You want more power out of your engine, see the FAQ and Articles section, tons of info there.

If that's not enough power for you, then you've got 2 choices: (1) get a bigger engine, or (2) switch to methanol and head over to a dedicated racer's forum like http://karting.4cycle.com for tons of good info on race engines.

Unless you're talking a highly-modified race engine, getting wrapped around the axle over modding flywheels is putting the horse WAY before the kart (pardon the puns). Kinda like arguing the merits of intake-port surface micro-finishing on a stock Ch*vy 305 V8.

And that's all I have to say about that.
