Tube from valve cover?

I'm installing a uni air filter on a Honda gx200. What do I do with the tube that went from the valve cover to the stock air filter housing?

nothing,it's a breather/overflow for the valve cover. can be used as a pulse for a fuel pump(diff carbs). some people put a little air filter on em,zip tie them or run them to a overflow can....your choise...

I agreed with your other suggestions but that part was bad advice, you'd end up with no crankcase ventilation at all.

Tony, you'll want to install a 5/16" breather filter or even a fuel filter in that line so you dont draw dirt into your engine.

Or go to a hardware store and buy a 5/16" barbed fitting with 1 nut and couple large OD. flat-washers. Then install the fitting in your Uni filter and plug your breather hose in just like your original air filter did.

The fitting in this pic is an angled model but they sell straight ones too. I'd suggest you use lock tight on those threads...

i picked up a tiny filter like the one rob posted, and put a fitting on it to the old tube which was cut, it hangs over the spark plug wire, and its really easy to install, as for a pulse fitting, i was suggested the bolt hole the governor arm used to be on

The drawback to that is it ends up filling the pulse-line and pump with oil, and that causes the pump to hardly work at all. Its better to install a pulse fitting in the valve cover or intake manifold.

I believe you could work around that by installing a diaphragm inline. However, most people drill and tap another hole in the valve cover, or into the intake manifold. As far as the PCV goes, mount the tube up high and stick an automotive-style, plastic inline fuel filter on it as you cheapest, easiest option.

Adding an in-line diagram canister would result in It getting just as sluggish once it was packed full of oil.
But even before that happened the additional diaphragm would weaken the signal getting to the pulse pump.

Thanks guys. I have ordered a fuel filter, but for the time being, I zip tied a small piece of foam from the stock air filter over the end of the house. Do I need to worry about the small hose falling out of the valve cover?

I'm looking for ideas to hold the choke lever onto the stock carb, now that I'm not using the stock air filter. Does anyone have any close up pictures their set-ups?

I don't have a picture of it, but I held mine on by drilling a hole in the end of the choke lever and tying a twist tie (heavy duty one with 2 wires) through it and one of the extra bolt holes.

I think I have seen a retainer clip for sale on line. Don't remember where. What I did was to cut/file the domed (pivot) area of the choke arm flat and drilled a hole thru it. I drilled a small hole about 1/4" down into the pivot boss on the carb, and loctite'd a self-tapping screw in.

Is this proven, or just theory- I ask because the diaphragm fluid/vacuum separation method exists in the automotive world in many applications. The only functional issue appears to occur when the diaphragm gets old and tears. Until that point, the oil really doesn't go far up the tube- with the system sealed, there is no vent to allow fluid flow.

One such application I have come upon was my 1994 Ford Explorer. There is a vacuum modulator line that runs from the intake manifold down to the transmission. Only after my diaphragm tore, did fluid in the line present itself. Just food for thought.

Once my test mule is ready to go, I will be testing this concept by way of a fitting installed in my governor arm hole. If it doesn't work out, you'll be the first to hear about it...

EDIT- I have just come to the embarrassing realization that when I was commenting on the EGR system earlier, I was thinking of the PCV system- ironically, the original topic of this thread... :mad2::mad2::mad2::oops:
