If your engine is equipped with a low-oil sensor (and it probably is), then yes- it would completely prevent your engine from firing. Top up your oil and try again.

EDIT- Not to rag on you, but the ABSOLUTE first thing you do before attempting to test-fire an engine- CHECK THE OIL!
yes your right, oil is very important. im not the brightest crayon in the box.

:roflol: Aww- it is easy to get overexcited and miss a "basic". Don't be hard on yourself, just remember to make it standard procedure.
im going to have "dont forget the oil" tattooed on my chest. and thats the second time i have done that, my briggs 5hp i ran several times without oil before i realiZed what i was doing. i do get so dang excited that i forget all common sense when i get a motor ready to test, so i do need to make a checklist to help make sure i dont forget.

thats a good way to seize up a piston. if you offroad what you have the motor on i would disconnect the oil sensor its the yellow wire . just make sure you always have oil in it 10w 30.

i know this question is stupid, but its not the one with the on off switch is it, my wire to that is black, and im not sure if there was a yellow wire, when i got the motor it was in a box ready to goto the scrapyard until i asked about it and got it cheap

no it not the one connected to your switch. its connected to a little metal square. not sure if you have one , but this is not necessary unless you have problems with it turning off when you hit a pothole or it turns off on a wide turn if its going on a gokart.

ok, im guessing if there was one the previous owner took it off, it was on a go kart before it was left out in the weather. until i saved it. im thinking of starting up a CLONE RESCUE (donations accepted :D )

im hoping tomorrow its a dryer day so that i can get out there and do more, it was raining all day and so humid in the air when i uncovered it, it only took 5 minutes before the motor was covered with mist so i called it a day after trying to start it a few times. hopefully a few of you guys will be around tomorrow when i try again.
