hello everyone i have an idea for an offroad gocart. the frame has full suspension already. it is a yerf dog 2 seater (maybe a one if i decide on it) model #3203. i was wondering if i could put a chain driven engine from a 4-wheeler, 3-wheeler, or dirtbike on this just by attaching chain from sprocket on 4-wheeler to sprocket on go cart axle. also i know nothing about ratios and number of teeth but what would be the ideal combination for top speed and good low end torque. i know people say i have to sacrifice one for the other but what would let me have a good balance. any input would be appreciated.:devil2:

prolly a good ratio to start with would be whatever was on the 4 wheeler (so long as your tires aren't extremely different sized as what was on the 4 wheeler

re:chain question

so could i just put the chain directly from the sprocket on the engine to the sprocket on the go cart (assuming they are the same kind). i was just wondering if this can be done without adding t/c, jackshafts and all the other complicated things. thanks

If you have a bike or quad engine it already has a gear box and manual clutch, just run the chain directly to the axle using the stock sprocket if its a 4 wheeler and maybe a slightly smaller one if its a bike.

re: go cart choice

hello thanks for reply. concerning my kart choice it will be the yerfdog #32001 single seater or the #3208 double seater. what would be a good engine for it. i have a honda 110cc off of a 3wheeler or a honda 200x from atc 3-wheeler. i might be able to possibly get a dirtbike engine i don't know what size yet. which would be my best choice. i would like some good low end torque and some top speed too. thanks in advance

What kind of speed you lookin for? the 110 atc engine probably wont be the best, the 200x would be better though. I would do the yerfdog 32001, and the 200x engine if i were you, you could probably get about 50mph out of that, which is quite a bit when it comes to a go kart.
