Equally likely is that they didn't want to work on an old rusty truck, so they threw out a huge number to get you to go away.

You OZ guys have to remember that laws over here are much less strict. Most states don't have inspections, just emissions testing, some don't even do emissions on older vehicles. We're fortunate in that we can build hot rods and modified vehicles all we want, but that also means that people with no clue what they're doing can get away with building asinine rat rod deathtraps.

:ninja: So what do you think of the 3/4 ton truck with the $50.00 6" lift kit towing a 10,000 lb trailer with a couple of those death traps on it because even those wouldn't pass a walk-a-round at the Sec. of State's office?

After a stint at U-Haul as a mechanic, I see a lot of tow rigs going down the road that are just plain frightening...

You are 110% correct on the ratrod death traps; they're just not as dangerous as probably 3/5's of the trailer combo's I see....:angelsad2:

Yep, there's stupid people everywhere, but I'd still rather someone beat some sense into them rather than have some more legislation added to our daily lives.

wow, in oz they can crush your car for an illegal suspension mod? thats ridiculous! can you not build anything legally there?

i would be afraid that they find something wrong with my car and take it from me and crush it...

well anyways i got the front of the truck propped up on jack stands, they were too short so i had to put rims under them.... its a little sketchy but it seems sturdy

this is the drivers side

pass side

this part of the frame is really thin

my plan is to get this ONLY REPAIRED then drive it over the winter. and in the spring, if i save from now till then, ill have 5-6 grand to buy a nicer truck. or, if it holds up well, ill keep driving it!

then ill either sell this truck as whole (maybe get 1500?) or strip off the good parts for my next truck and sell the rest, then scrap whats left.... unless i get a chevy or dodge then nothing will interchange...

what do you plan on buying for 5-6 grand. i have seen some pretty nice rigs for about 2 maybe 4 max. for 5-6 grand you better be getting something in almost brand new condition.

i probably wont spend 5-6 grand. maybe 4 grand.

id like to get a 96 or older F250 or F350, 7.3L powerstroke

it would be nice to get the above mentioned truck and a beater car, so i can use it as a toy sometimes, and always have a backup in case something goes wrong. but of course im just dreaming.

having 2 vehicles is nice but maintenance can be a pain. i got tons of work i got to do to my 2 main vehicles. it never seems to end but i always got a back up vehicle to drive. the only thing that really sucks is my mom has 2 cars and i am not allowed to drive them because she is too cheap to have her insurance cover someone under 25.

Nice choice. the 7.3 is a great engine. But remember. Diesel Aint cheap. And when are you really going to need a 7.3L diesel?

Just get a Nice f-150 or a Chevy 1500 or a dodge. Dodge has the 5.3L Hemi. A good engine IMO

i would have to agree with that. diesels are expensive to maintain. now if you are looking at fairly new dodge or chrysler products you may want to avoid any .7 engines. for some reason they seemed to be garbage. i know someone that had to rebuild there 4.7 after it dropped a valve seat and destroyed the engine. apparently it is a common problem. don't know about the 5.3 hemi.

Diesel's are great for work, if you actually need them; if it's just for the bragging rights, save your money. My neighbors who used to run diesel pickups are almost all running gas engines; they're too **** expensive. The price break for fuel isn't there anymore, and the price difference for the diesel option (up front + routine maint.) pushes the Break Even point out beyond 5~6 years. This is definitely not all applications; but it does cover just using it as a daily driver. Basically, if you aren't towing 10,000 lbs on a really regular basis, the math just is not there.

Hope this helps.

No they can put a yellow sticker on it
Which means u have a set amount of time to get it fixed and over the pits (a government inspection Type thing)

If if fails it again then they can give u more time to get it fixed
If it fails enough they will crush it
So my friend just had to replace the springs and he was good to go
They can yellow sticker u for a blown brake light
The cops love using it as a solution to all the hoons
The 18yr olds who think they are sick in there $300 vl commodore doing donuts
Then the cops catch them and yellow sticker them for every little thing, the kid can't afford to fix it, the car is crushed
One less death trap on the road
One less idiot out driving

i love the sound of diesels

I agree!!! They're just too danged expensive!!!

You want to know who else thinks that? Mr. Gale Banks.

He knows where he wants to take diesel technology; into the future. He thinks all 3 OEM's diesel's are dinosaur technology; GM's is the most current, but still a dino. His vision is loosely based on a 6.6 Duramax; his goal is to make less torque; to keep the motor alive; but to start making some REAL horsepower. What kind of #'s? According to the video I watched on Banks Eng.'s web site, Only about 450 ft/lbs of torque at around 900(!?!) hp. This is his Starting Point. He also thinks that by lowering the peak torque versus peak horsepower it could lower the price to make any power with diesel engines by at least 1/3.

Go Banks, Go!!!!
