This old frame is being a pain in the butt :furious2:
i have this beefy honda gx390, no matter how i try to mount it, the tourqe convertor hits the frame. are there any options besides extending the frame and making a lifted mount? i'm really wanting to get to ride this today.

Yeah, your idea of mounting that giant engine on this frame was sort of ill advised. The kart was not designed for anything over about 5 hp. That's why the seat is where it is and the frame is as wide as it is. Try going smaller.

Even an 8 hp engine is pushing the limits of space.

Really, there's no harm in keeping all your inquiries within one thread. Even though I recognized your kart, some won't and will not have a frame of reference for assisting you.

It would be nice if you would lay a 2x4 across there and set the engine in so we can analyze it alot better.

good luck with that.

I fit mine in a similiar sized kart, but that might involve flipping your torque converter 90 degrees so the driven is in front of the engine, but it also looks like your axle is too far forward for that so no matter what you are going to have to do some fab work to get it to fit.

Wait was this the Orange Krate? You are hacking it! It saddens me.
But it is yours, so I can respect that.

i'm honestly trying to keep everything original on the kart, i am not chopping the frame or anything. it would sadden me if i had to do that. the only thing that has been changed is the motor mount, i welded 2 small brackets on the back, the kart is still almost perfect, i've seriously spend this whole day working on this kart, i should be done tomorrow after church, i just lack drilling the motor mount holes, everything else is done. i'm so excited! i might start painting it tomorrow night, all black or carbon black, most likely flat black, anyone have any tire suggestions? i was thinking maxxis street tires? not sure but i need something that is 10 - 14 inches. thank you all for the help!

THE KART IS MOVING! lol i drove the kart to and from a activity at church tonight, today was a very hot day in oklahoma, i just brought the kart inside and worked on it. okay so i have a few questions, when the kart starts, after about 2 seconds it takes off at walking speed, and if i don't keep a steady throttle when riding, it just dies. anyone have any ideas? honda gx390

Mine will sometimes want to walk away. It is just the idle engaging the clutch. You could adjust the idle a little lower. But if it is not too big of a hassle. let it be, I do.

As far as it dies, probably need to clean the carb.

Post a pic of how it looks now. just not sideways! lol.

also would putting a car exhaust on it for the heck of it hurt it or anything? i wanna have some fun tomorrow.

What, is it too loud as it is?

A car muffler will add weight and the size will be too big for proper exhaust scavenging I should think. But it is possible.... anything is possible.

Here is a possible answer, Worth trying:
Yeah...your carb is probably still dirty. (Or possibly you're idle needs adjusting) ...but do this first....either jack it up so the back wheels are off the ground or disconnect the chain....

Now..while opening up the throttle with the air filter off....let it build up some speed...then put your hand on the end of the carb until it almost dies...remove your hand and let it build up speed again and repeat...maybe 10 times.

What sometimes happens is puts a stronger pressure on some of the passages and can sometimes break clogged areas free.

Keep us informed. Google "Predator idle "...or maybe another helpful member will help you out with that.

and I didhear of someone using a Car muffler. Did not hurt. I guess it was so big, as far as the engine was concerned it was not even there, but it did eliminate all the noise. Ugly though. Worth a try, but get it running right first so you can see if it causes a problem or not.
