Trouble with motorcycle engine

Hello,

I've just bought this motorcycle engine that came of a dirt bike from xmotos.com, it's a 200cc 5-speed engine.

When I came home I noticed there wasn't a spark plug cable.
Does anybody of you guys know something about these engines? Will I need a ignition coil?

I want to test the starter. Can I just hook up a 12V battery, 50amps, directly to the starter for a few seconds?

Meanwhile, I'm trying to find a electric circuit for this type of engine.


PS. I already opened the flywheel case to see if all that stuff was intact. The inside looks really good. No damaged or worn out parts are visible.


EDIT: I found the serial number: 163FML (it's in the pictures too). It appears to be a lifan engine? Could somebody confirm this?

First thing you need to do is locate the coil. In most cases (if not, all) the spark plug cable is attached to the coil in a single unit, meaning, yes, you'll need a new coil.

Ok, thanks. Do you know if it would be possible to use a coil from a 6hp industrial engine?

Do you know any method so I can know on what voltage the starter works?

This dude removed the rectifier because he doesn't have a permanent battery. I guess I'm going to do the same for now, just for testing purposes. If I get the engine running and the gokart works fine, I'll buy that rectifier.
Anyhow, here's a list of what I think I need to get her running:
* CDI
* Starter Solenoid
* Starter switch
* coil

I have 2 cables coming from my engine. One comes from that flywheel and the stator stuff. So, that's probably the 12v voltage to power the coil. I have also a cable coming with 6 small cables inside. Does anybody of you know what these cables are and where they come from. Maybe that's the CDI built in?

I think it's cloned from a small Honda XR or XL engine- looks a lot like my XR100. In a pic, show me ALL the electrical wiring and components you got with this engine. Not only does it appear that you are missing the coil, it looks like you're missing the CDI module, too. A pitbike CDI or Honda XR/XL CDI should work, too. No, you cannot use any parts from an industrial engine.

The starter will be 12v. Use a motorcycle, lawn tractor, or car battery to test.

Thanks toystory. Look up my post again please. I've edited it with more information.

I took 4 pictures of the wiring system. As you can see, there is 1 cable with 5 small cables inside coming from the flywheel and magneto.

Then you have that other cable, with 6 smaller cables inside. I would like to know where they come from. Maybe this is the CDI?

I have never seen an internal CDI on a bike engine. I suspect the extra wiring you found is for the neutral start switch, charging circuit, lighting circuit, etc.

EDIT- The teardrop shaped round cover with the wires coming out are for the neutral light indicator/start switch circuitry.

So basically I do not need any of these cables to get her running?

What I need to get her running is:
*Starter solenoid (What is this actually?)
*CDI
*Ignition coil
*Starter switch

That's all?

I've been thinking to connect my cables.
On the link I pasted previously, the colors are a bit different than mine.
This is what I came out so far:

green/white - ground
blue/white - to CDI
yellow - nothing (used for the rectifier, but I won't use this atm)
black - to CDI
White - nothing (On the wiring diagram, this should be pink and connected to the rectifier)

Ok, I figured out what I need. The parts will be ordered shortly.

I want to test the starter engine - hooked up a battery. I can see a few sparks coming from the cables when I connect them. Maybe it's shorted? Or maybe that's normal and is my starter motor just not working.

So, I hooked up the battery but nothing is happening. The starter motor doesn't give a kick at all.
What could be the problem? Broken starter?

What is this (circled)? Can you get a closer pic? If it's a spade terminal (as I think it is) it's probably the trigger terminal. You may need to bridge between it & the pos terminal

You should hook your ground to the engine block and just tap the positive to the starter terminal. It should turn the engine. First make sure your engine isn't in gear or locked up.

Its just a scratch or a bit of dirt. Btw, whats a spade terminal?

I tapped the + to the battery, but nothing happens.

Kickstart is still working as far as I know, but electric start would be cool too. :thumbup:

I just ordered a new CDI and a bobine. Once these parts arrive, I should be able to kickstart the engine. We'll see! Keep you up to date...
